Who goes to small hall shows on here?

I've noticed this trend too

Like I say I don't expect a card full of 50/50 fights but I want to at least see the bill topper be some sort of competitive fight.

Small hall shows are filled up of roughly 75% people there just to watch their mate/family member etc (who aren't that fussed on who their opponenet is) and 25% hardcore boxing fans.

Sadly I think promoters have realised they may be better off just sticking plenty of prospects (who tend to have better followings..everyone sells **** loads odf tickets their first fight) v journeymen and no real competitive fights as 75% of the crowd will pay the ticket price but only go in for their particular fight anyway!

Its us 25% that are losing out/being exploited. Thats why I often leave it very very late before deciding on any small hall shows now. I'll only go if theres at least one competitive fight on the card.

 

I used to go to a few but I got fed up with half a dozen four/six rounders featuring a house fighter plodding his way to a points win against a 5-75 journeyman who barely threw a punch and a top of the bill eight rounder beating a Latvian inside three. What I could never understand was why so many people would shell out £20+ to watch their mate for fifteen minutes then spend the rest of the night in the bar.

 

:yep Thats what it was like when I used to watch my cousin when he first turned pro.

When I went to Fit City leisure centre in Salford for one, the bar was a 'pasting' table and the bar maid was abar 13. Being fair Derry Matthews was headlining there.

Also been to the Bowlers and one that was in the Lava & Ignite club in Preston.

 

lot of negativity on this thread but have to say if you pick the events you go to well (like to think I do) you can see some great action.

I've seen some cracking fights on small hall shows genuine fight of the year contenders.

 

Don't get me wrong, I've been to some *******s & seen some good fights. But as already said I've seen my fair share of terrible nights.

At one point could say it's the luck of the draw , but more & more frequently the whole show is being mad up of journeymen & relatively experienced pros going through the motions.

Though the VIP show in April is headlined by Blackledge vs Cameron , which is an honest 50/50 & there is a few exciting novices included - AJ Faizy always excites & Morgan Jackson looks interesting, so I'll be there & expect that at least the headline will deliver!

 

I used to go to small hall shows following Crolla around, but now he's moved on I don't do as many. I know they need the income but I sometimes feel they're overpriced. £40 for a ticket to see a few novices beat up horrible imports and the headliner is usually just some decent ticket seller against another import.

Couldn't agree more with the bit about journeymen, really narks me when ppl say the usual about them. Though... I do believe there is a limit to the amount a fighter needs to be in with these type fighters. Once the " apprenticeship" is served then the only time u should be seeing these is maybe on a stay busy or a come back from injury - certainly not top of the bill for a title or so... Think that's the punters getting seen off a little
