I'd replace quarry with Jack Dempsey and O'Brien with Tyson Fury but still a very good list

Being 1 quarter irish is not enough to make this list

Any list of top ten Irish heavyweights should include Jack Doyle,

what other Irish heavyweight could sing "The Garden Where the Praties Grow" as well as Doyle

and for that matter, how many of the Italian heavyweights could do as well with "Torna a Surriento"

and he also married Marlon Brando's second wife

I suppose really picky types will focus on Doyle's inside the ring record and refuse to list him.

Yes but some people don't realise that when your nationality changes your race stays the same

Right. The tricky part is most of best Irish or Italian fighters were/are USA based. But with 3-4 generations passing after immigration, it's becoming rare to see a fighter who's 100% anything in the USA. We are all mixes, even the African Americans have 10-20% European DNA on average.

I think 3/4 irish should be enough to make this list which is why I've included dempsey who had Jewish and Native American in him aswell. I agree with what you are saying but John L and ****ey were both full irish despite being born in America.

You have no idea how much Irish blood was in Dempsey ,he himself didn't know , he also had some Jewish forbears.
These lists are about as genuine as one time Irish national squad manager Jackie Charlton picking footballers for the squad because they drank Guinness!

From what I've read dempsey was about 3 quarters irish with a Jewish strain from his father and Native American in his mother but both his parents were at least half irish and from what I've read dempsey considered himself irish foremost but if you would like a revised list with 100 percent irish men only then I can make one of those too

I've 4 books on Dempsey, two of which are autobiographies, none say he considered himself Irish.
    No, don't trouble.
