There was no moving of the goal post. Manny had the opportunity to take the 50/50 with a 14 day cutoff back in 2010. Manny's team declined. The drug testing was mentioned right away, and Roach and others in Manny's camp boastfully claimed: "It won't be a problem." (Somebody was lying)

Due to Manny declining, Floyd took the 14 day cutoff offer off the table. That entire point was a "concession" to Team Pacquiao to make the fight. Nobody in their right mind should blame Floyd for taking a "concession off the table when the other team walks out on negotiations." i.e - I compromised to close a deal, but you walked away anyways. That's outright disrespectful and you wouldn't get that same deal point in the future.

You can't say "Floyd moved the goal posts" when Manny's team walked away from negotiations. Those negotiations at that point are "dead," and anything you negotiated in that potential deal is now null and void. It doesn't matter.


Fact is: Manny has taken a 40% split instead of 50%. Manny has taken no cutoff on drug testing instead of 14 days. (Manny requested 21 days in 2010!)

You can say "Floyd moved the goal posts," but it's clear what side moved on their position, and it was Manny Pacquiao. Floyd's position literally has not changed in years. Pacquiao is getting the same deal he would have got in 2010, except he's getting less of a percentage and no cutoff date. Sounds to me like Pacquiao should have just signed in 2010.

 

He probably would have paid his contract back instead.

 

Are you 100% sure the fight would have been a done deal? You actually believe that Floyd would never add another stipulation after the fact? So Floyd never said he wouldn't fight Pac until he left Arum? Floyd never said Pac had to sign with TMT first? Floyd never said Manny had to have a few fights under TMT before they step in the ring? In the 5-6 years we've been waiting for this fight, the only thing Floyd fans have on Manny is not agreeing to the drug testing, but you have to remember that when those negotiations were going on both Mannny and Floyd could be considered the A side. If drug testing was the only issue why did it take so long to make the fight? Its not like Pac just agreed this year to take the test. You're so hung up on 2010 I think you haven't realized its 2015, who do you think held up the fight for so long? Floyd himself said he was the reason why the fight was made, he took credit for it but he didn't realize that by making that statement it implies he never wanted the fight until now.

 

The proof is in the pudding. Pacquiao is getting a worse deal today, than what was ready to be signed in 2010. 40% of the cut instead of 50%. No cutoff date instead of a 14 day cutoff. Manny changed his position, not Floyd.

All the talk after the negotiations fell through is irrelevant as I said. You can't say "he moved the goal posts," when the negotiations were dead. Anything you negotiated in that first deal is null and void. It's not a difficult concept to understand. You can't walk away from negotiations, then come back 18 months later and demand the same concessions. Sorry, it doesn't work like that.

If Manny's team was worried about the goal posts moving, they should have just agreed to terms in 2010.

He's getting a smaller percentage, but he's getting a larger overall payday. Not only that, but a win here for Pacquiao is still pretty significant. A loss though would not hurt him as much as it would've 5 years ago. Eseentially, by Manny taking this fight 5 years later, he's decreased his risk and increased his reward.

 

They are both getting larger overall pay days, so that point is really irrelevant.

What is relevant is this: Pacquiao's team moved off of their position. Floyd didn't move off of his. For all this talk about "moving goal posts" and what not, it would appear that Manny took the same thing Floyd has been offering for the entire time.

 

I'm not debating about anyone moving any goal post. I'm simply stating that it will work out better for Pacquiao taking the fight now rather than 5 years ago.

 

No argument there. I've said it before the wait is actually paying off for both guys. They are making much more cash compared to what they would have received in 2010.

And think of all the money he's made on the "in between fights." If Pac lost to Mayweather in 2010, he probably doesn't make as much money from 10' - 15'
