Why didn't Mayweather give Ortiz a re-match?

I just finished re-watching the Ortiz fight and was surprised at how much success Ortiz was having at the end of the 4th round before he decided to throw away the work he put in that round with that moronic headbutt. Ortiz had the strength, size, speed, reach to give Mayweather problems as was being exhibited in that 4th round. And with Mayweather cut like he was from the headbutt, he could have done some damage the rest of the fight had he not lost his head. At the end of the fight Mayweather says he can have a re-match if he wants. Anyone recall why it never happened?

I'd like to think that Paquiao has something to draw from in that fight from Ortiz as short as it was. But its comparing apples to oranges because Ortiz has a 3 inch reach over Paquiao, 5'8/5'9 vs 5'6 and Ortiz is built thick. The parallels I did see were simply that the ackward bouncing side to side, straight power shots with the right and left hands. That's Paquiao's bread and butter right there, straight hard shots down the pipe. Ortiz was having success in that last round with the straight left, straight right 1-2 combo. The hard straight left was splitting right through Mayweathers high guard like nothing.

 

1. What on earth are you talking about? Ortiz had Mayweather smiling that famous no means yes smile. He was tagging him with hard shots at 1:54-148ish of the 4th round on the ropes then had him running back for dear life before the headbutt that changed everything.

2. Are you seriously one of the *****'s that believes Mayweather knocked Ortiz out legitimately? LOL!!!!!!

Let me qualify with I am in no means saying Ortiz would have won that fight or a re-match. Simply stating an observation of Ortiz having some rythm and success in that 4th round that we are not use to someone having against Floyd. I thought Ortiz had a punchers chance the rest of the fight. I wish we could have been treated to the rest of it....

 

You lost all your credibility right there with that statement which is completely false. Ortiz caught Mayweather with a few stinging shots on the right side of the ropes(in the middle) between 1:54 and 1:48 in the 4th round that had Mayweather smirking the famous smile all fighters give when they get hurt and want to play it off.

You can talk all you want, but the video is there for anyone to see. You would also be one of the only people to say Ortiz was not having any success against Mayweather. I can link many quotes/articles to support my claim. So if thats the road you want to go be my guest.

 

1. It's called taking the high road. What was he going to cry for in the post fight when he headbutted Mayweather to start that sequence. He even said in that same post fight you mention that he was obeying the refs orders. Cortez didn't take the initiative and put order on the fight. He was just sort of in la la land. Now of course it also has to be said that yes protect yourself at all times, and Ortiz was an idiot for being so apologetic after being dirty. But that doesnt change the fact that it was not a legitimate KO. KO'ing a guy who isnt even looking does not count. Anyone can do that.

2. Cortez never resumed anything. You can rewatch the video on youtube. It was Cortez lack of control and authority that led to the misunderstanding. The ref has to have control over the fight at all times.

3. IDK what would have happened the rest of the fight. I really don't. All Im saying is I wish we would have got to see. And the facts are the facts. Ortiz found some success in the middle and end of the 4th round and hurt Mayweather with a couple hard shots. He was finally settling in. At no point was any of Mayweathers shots deterring Ortiz from coming in. So I dont understand where this BS talk of he was going to get him out in a couple more rounds is.

4 Odds are that Mayweather would have won. Im not saying that Ortiz would have won at all. But what I am saying is from what we saw he had a punchers chance the rest of the fight. He was able to connect on a few solid shots that we just arent used to seing Mayweather get hit with. Granted he took them well. But it leaves a sour taste in your mouth knowing that what if Ortiz was able to keep connecting once a round with some hard shots. If he was able to stay in there what would the effect have been on Mayweather. Well never get that question answered.

 

Lol that's hilariously true. But sort of an oxymoron when Floyd cant read . i guess that just makes Ortiz look that much dumber.
