His best wins at the weight are Ted Kid Lewis and Battling Levinsky but other than that :conf

And apparently his KO of Lewis was a punch on the break.

How could Gene Tunney not be mentioned ? Tunney before he became a heavyweight probably would have beaten any LH in history I believe. He stopped Carpentier, Tommy Gibbons, outclassing them. Tunney had it all at this time. A great intelligent classic boxer, a punishing right hand, a great chin
and deceptively strong who along with Ezzard Charles were the two best lightheavyweights of modern times I believe...

Lewis was a welterweight who scaled chubby 157lbs for that fight , the referee broke the fighters and whilst he was touching Lewis's arm Carpentier threw a right hand that ko'd him.

1922-05-11 : Georges Carpentier 175 lbs beat Ted Kid Lewis 157 lbs by KO at 2:15 in round 1 of 20

I know he had an abbreiviated title reign, but I think Conn was the best.

You have shaken up my previous post burt!! How could I deny Tunney...and speaking of, wouldn't a Tunney-Conn fight have been interesting...with the animosity between Billy and Gene...

rc, I love Billy Conn but I cannot see him beating a Gene Tunney. Having said this, Billy Conn would give any LH in history a helluva tussle...His greatest fight other than the Joe Louis affair was when Billy battered a terrific Bob Pastor for a ko...Billy also whipped the tough, strong southpaw Melio Bettina twice. Melio I saw at MSG fighting a draw later on with the esteemed Jimmy Bivins...Conn with his looks and flair reminded me of the actor
Errol Flynn. What a duo Pittsburgh spawned. The greatest was Harry Greb of course followed by Billy, the Pittsburgh Kid.

Ezzard Charles for me, but I suppose its not written in stone. Light heavy is one of the hardest divisions to put together an accurate top 10, as its loaded with p4p giants, many of whom are very close in accomplishments.

Charles has to be in anyone's top 4 ,and you're of course right the division had some great fighters in it.

Well put as always my friend. And Ruby Robert wasn't mentioned either-as well as Ezzard Charles, although he got his mentions later in the thread as we know.

Good one:good. And Michael Spinks beat every lightheavy he fought, as well as Michael Moorer, although the latter doesn't have the resume to make the claim for the title.
