Should've fought Oosthuizen back when Oost could still make 168

Well yea I know they were most likely going to go to purse bid but trying to schedule a fight for when your supposed to fight Froch for your WBC belt is just sad. Even if Froch wins purse bid I think he is supposed to make 75% to Frochs 25%. That's massive money in front of a large audience in a very winnable fight. Ward could of went on to be a boxing legend but instead his ego won't let it happen. Wish we could here more of the details like if the fight with Oost would be at 175.

Isn't it for Froch WBA title? If so, the rules are usually 75-25 (I reckon it is for the wbc) in favor of the titlist when he is fighting his mandatory.

Ward is the Super Champion while Froch is only the regular champion which in reality means Froch has the equivalent of an inter continental title.

When Povetkin was regular champion and Wlad Super champion and it went to purse bids Wlad got 75% and Povetkin 25%. So when it goes to purse bids, Froch will only get 25% which quite frankly will be a substantial pay cut for Froch. It wouldn't surprise me if Froch vacates if it goes to purse bids because if his cut is any less than the $6 million he was making for Kessler and Groves 1 then it doesn't make financial sense especially when there are more lucrative opponents available.

As for HBO turning this fight down. Not really surprising when you consider most US fans won't know who Oosthuizen is. Also if Ward was wanting anywhere near the $2 million he is deluding himself. Kovalev and Golovkin are drawing similar viewing figures if not a little more than Ward and they are getting nowhere near $2 million, Golovkin is yet to make more than a million.

Ward got $2 million for Rodriguez because HBO were hoping the win over Dawson would raise Ward's appeal and see ratings higher than the 1.3 million that fight drew. But the Rodriguez fight did a little over a million so it was clear HBO overpaid and Ward's appeal had not benefited from the win over Dawson probably due to his inactivity.

You obviously haven't had the rules regarding the WBA. It would be 75% for Ward and 25% for Froch unfortunately. Even if Froch wins the bid. You describing anything as unlikely while Ward tries to fight someone else during the period he is supposed to fight Froch next..

Considering that Ward has been inactive for more than a year, shouldn't he be allowed a tune-up fight before taking on Froch?

Yea that would be great tell the WBA.

HBO has turned down 3 fights now for Ward. I don't think he has fought a mandatory for the WBA in 3 years and yea he has had issues with his promoter but mostly because of his ridiculous fight demands. The WBA has given him a lot of time but do you think it's fair that Ward requests 2 million a fight for tuneups? Kovalev just made that in his last fight I believe. Ward-Froch is supposed to go down this May/June regardless of what either fighter wanted to do.

    This Barcham!

If he isn't fighting it is doing no good for WBA. He could take tuneups even if they aren't broadcasted but refuses to. WBA wants a fight in May/June and if Ward is trying to fight someone else there's a good chance he will be stripped. I am sure Froch doesn't want him fighting tuneups.

Can we just get this man in a backyard with a camcorder and let him fight his neighbor?

Hey, I wasn't saying he asked 2M for Tommy Gun... I posed the question for a potential Vlasov tune-up using 2M only because that's what he got for E-Rod. And E-Rod wasn't considered a mandatory or a top 5 SMW by any stretch. Maybe bottom of the top 10... it wasn't even fought at SMW anyway.

he could go to TV Azteca and they wouldn't give him 7 figures in pesos for a tune up vs Oosthuizen or Vlasov

I wonder if Roc Nation took his word and actually believed it was his former promoter not getting him big fights. Ward thinks his promoter was hiding from him that he is a huge draw. He also believes a fight with Froch in America will do Froch-Groves 2 numbers. Seriously he has to be the most delusional fighter in the sport.

Didn't know he was asking for $2mil for Oosthuizen.

Maybe he was planning to push for an extension of Froch II and HBO wants the rematch straight away.
