Plausible. Ward's ego, then again, would not accept going back on the "I need a few tune-ups" statement he made when he signed with Roc Nation... Ward can't be lying, he needs the tune-ups. Can't go back on his word.

If he needs the tune ups he should be prepared to take a couple of meagre purses relative to that standard of opposition. For the kind of dough he's after he needs to get straight back in the mix at top level

Oosthuizen couldn't deal with the style of SOG light ie. SOG's stablemate Brandon Gonzales who fights in a similar style to him. Officially the fight was declared a draw but Oosthuizen got a gift there.

'The new year has not gotten off to a good start for Thomas Oosthuizen, the unbeaten South African contender, who suffered an undisclosed injury in a bicycle crash in recent days and then was released by promoter Rodney Berman ahead of his upcoming fight.

Oosthuizen, a longtime super middleweight contender, was due to move up to light heavyweight to face Montreal-based Colombian prospect Eleider Alvarez (13-0, 8 KOs) in an HBO-televised bout from the Bell Centre in Montreal on Jan. 18.

The fight was due to serve as the co-feature on a tripleheader headlined by the long-awaited showdown between former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and former super middleweight titlist Lucian Bute, both of whom are based in Montreal.

However, Berman, a Golden Gloves promoter out of South Africa who co-promotes Oosthuizen with Lou DiBella, announced Monday that he has "washed his hands" of Oosthuizen after the bike accident combined with Berman's assertion that Oosthuizen was more than 13 pounds over the 175-pound limit for the fight "and hadn't a hope of being fit to face unbeaten Eleider Alvarez on an HBO bill in less than a fortnight."

The 25-year-old Oosthuizen (22-0-2, 13 KOs), a southpaw, struggled to make the 168-pound super middleweight limit in recent fights and is coming off back-to-back lackluster performances.

In June, he struggled in a 10-round draw with Brandon Gonzalez and then eked out a majority decision against Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna on Nov. 9 in South Africa. Berman said the fight with Maderna was nearly called off because of Oosthuizen's problems making weight, which promoted what was supposed to be fresh start at light heavyweight.

"He's done," Berman said. "He's had so many chances and blown every one. Golden Gloves is the promoter of champions, of men of credibility, good standing and dignity. Tommy has let us all down. Fighters are meant to be role models, but he's fallen very short."

It has not been determined whether a new opponent will be signed to face Alvarez and, even if one is, whether the bout will remain on the HBO telecast, which still will feature Pascal (28-2-1, 17 KOs) taking on Bute (31-1, 24 KOs) in the 12-round main event and heavyweight Mike Perez (20-0, 12 KOs) facing Carlos Takam (28-1, 22 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round bout.'

So disgustingly predictable. 'I want a lotta money, and I want it in Oakland, ya know bro'. He is no where worth 2mil, not even in a championship fight. HE should grow a pair and rematch Kessler in Denmark or Froch in the UK cause outside of Oakland he is decidedly not a draw..

This could expose Roc Nation: they promise the huge money to sign someone, but can (or will) they still pay out if they can't get the HBO backing? Not going to raise a couple million on the live gate for sure.

Roc wants to buy in and play with the big boys, but has promoted I think one actual fight card.

Promoters promote fights. That's the job description. Let's see if they still go through with this fight or if it was "we're all in ... as long as TV is paying the bills."

Roc Nation needs to put this fight on with or without HBO to show some credibility in the promoting game -- if all their big-money promises depend on someone else (in this case HBO) footing the bill, then they aren't for real and they can forget any major signings in the future.

If Ward didn't have such a gross sense of entitlement, he'd be fighting. It's really that simple. This is all entirely related to him requesting far too much money for cruddy matchups. His ego wouldn't allow him to even take the sort of purse Kovalev made for a unification matchup against Kovalev.

That's the difference between a real fighter like Kovalev and a pampered poser like Son of Goosen. Andre Bored represents everything wrong with boxing today.

This is something that trolls do when they want to influence public opinion. Same thing goes for those who say GGG hasn“t got more than 1 mil for his fights. I heard GGG opponents got 600000$ for fighting him. Sounds a bit strange if the main attraction gets only 400000$ more. So basically why are people calling those numbers without reference?
