GGG's stampede through the 160-pound division as well as his lacking ability to sign fights that would propel him into the pay-per-view division of boxing (Martinez, Cotto, Canelo, Chavez Jr), has led a bunch of silly fans and even more silly pundits to suggest Golovkin move to 168 in order to challenge Andre Ward and so set up a super fight. Would such a move be good career management for Golovkin? No no no.... First of all GGG is a natural middleweight, not tall or heavy enough for SMW. He has zero difficulties making weight at 160 and is about the same height as his opponents. And size does matter: Just compare how he whelped smaller guys such as Macklin, Proksa and Rubio, while having much more of a problem with the bigger Martin Murray. That difference will become very noticable at 168. Sober, intelligent career management of Golovkin is more like this: 2015: stay at 160. Force Cotto is give up the WBC belt. Fight Quillin, N'dam, Saunders or Lee for that strap. 2016: stay at 160. If (as expected) Canelo takes over the RING belt from Cotto, target Canelo at the end of 2016. If nothing of this works out try Kirkland, Lara or Andrade for entertaining s****s. 2017: stay at 160. RING + all major straps are now in team Golovkin's corner. By 2017 Andre Ward will possibly have sorted out his contracts and shaken of ring rust. 2018: move up to 168. Target the bottom of the division, NOT Andre Ward. Use PR generated to build fight with Ward. 2019: fight Andre Ward. The whole point is to save Andre Ward for last. Think of it: who is GGG going to fight after the Ward fight? And Ward? After the Golovkin fight there is only a move to 175 left. And waiting there is Kovalev and Beterbiev.... So next time you hear "Golovkin should move to 168 and fight Andre Ward" you know they are full of ....
Sober, intelligent career management of Golovkin is more like this good job im not his manager then he's by natural 160 lber. an exceptionally gifted one. people who demand he move up are doing so either cause they want to see his exquisite talent really challenged, or want to see him beaten im with you, he should stay @160, he'll unify this year, and continue to rise into boxings next superstar and p4p king (a lot of people have him there already)
I often thought there was a 3rd reason, and that's to stop his record run. Once he moves up he can't unify all the belts, or beat B-Hop's streak.
people who want to see him move up to 168 are the one's who are butthurt and want to see him lose yet he has unfinished business at MW, let him unify the titles before he goes up if he feels he's up to it
The biggest fight at 160 for Golovkin is Canelo. And he is going to have to work VERY hard to secure that fight. Basically annihilate everyone that is semi-relevant and so making everybody else (Cotto, Quillin) less so.
you could be right there Robney he's already got the highest KO ratio in 160 history. lets see how far he can extend that :bbb:bbb
Why would anybody care about the business management more than seeing the best fights You call yourself a boxing fan?atsch You'd happily wait till 2019 to see him fight the best in his division? And yes its his division as he had no problems sending Chanez and Froch the contracts. This GGG is taking over the Klitschko's as having the worst fans on the planet. He says he wants to down to fight guys half his size in Mayweather and Pacam but you will make every excuse in the book why he shouldn't go up a few pounds because your afraid to see if he gets tested? Embarrassing.
And his fans just want to see him batter guys in mismatches who have no chance of winning for the rest of his career.
Yes - I call myself a boxing fan. But even fans have to think. Team GGG did send Chavez Jr a contract for a fight at 168, but I have seen footage of Chavez Jr sparring Golovkin. Golovkin simply embarrased him. No way Jr will take that fight unless he is desperate for cash. He is now fighting Fonfara for f sake. Froch? Yes it is about 10% chance that fight will get made. But I honestly have not heard Team GGG talk about it. Why? Froch simply does not want it. Just face it - the fight with Ward is light years from being made.
Dino mate - stick to hating on Wlad GGG is the polar opposite of Wlad Dont make me angry  [YT]_Yenzdq5g6o[/YT]
So why does he not go down to 154 and fight Lara who called him out. He got no problem dragging up 154 ponders and putting them into hospital like Kassim Ouma and saying he will drop for Floyd and Pacman. Why not drop for Lara who is calling him out?
he has business at MW to finish, that you think belts mean nothing is your personal opinion, in 20 years time people will remember GGG for what belts he had and how long he held them, as well as how he demolished the titleholders to do so, not for single money fights at 168 once he finishes at 160, I have no problem with him chasing titles and fights at 168
what do you mean? he fights the best who are willing to take a fight with him how can you argue with that? he calls out the linear champion of his division he wants to unify and EVERY time he steps in the ring he brings the polar opposite of what Waldo brings how can you hate on the guy :huh
Dropping to 154 makes even less sense than going to 168. Lara simply is not worth it financially. The only fights that would make a drop to 154 worth it would be either Canelo or Mayweather. But Canelo is going to 160 anyway and Mayweather will never fight GGG. So just forget about dropping to 154 .....:nono
