You say Floyd didn't fight any big names near their peaks, but say he didn't fight Tszyu? Tszyu was on his way out in 2004-2005.

What has Brook done to earn a fight?

Floyd was overhyped? I guess you think being a five weight world champion and on the P4P list since 1998 is easy.

having a world title makes an opponent great? okay so Algieri was great? Provotnokov?

now ****yze this list CAREFULLY... who here is great?

Canelo is unproven and barely got past Lara. The others are certainly not great, AT ALL with the exception of perhaps DLH but we all know Floyd faced DLH when he was past his best; it was still a SD.

    Mosely was 38...

i know floyd fans will claim the thread is stupid and resort to silly personal attacks but reality is that Floyd Mayweather hasn't beaten ANY great fighter. When i say great, i mean a hagler, a leonard, a duran, a hearns etc.. these guys had to face each other. Not a single of Floyd's past opponents can be mentioned in the same breath as any of these fighters.

Pac yes, finally Floyd will face a really tough opponent; the only boxer considered P4P best for years during Floyd's era; a fighter with a record 8 world division titles; a fighter with speed, strength, stamina and skills to match his. FINALLY, we will see Floyd face a great rival.

History won't look at the facts of Floyd ducking the likes of Margarito, Williams etc because their careers didn't turn out too well. Roy Jones didn't fight guys, but history won't look too much into that because Roy fought very good opposition. Floyd fought Hatton, he fought Cotto, he's fighting Pacquiao, he's fought Oscar, Basically he's fought the big names in boxing and that's what matters.

Floyd and Pacquiao will go down very highly in boxing p4p status. As years go by, they'll go even higher because more people will realise how special they were when their career is said and done.

mayweather is pure quality there is no doubt about that , finally we have the fight in 5 weeks time that will define his legacy , if he wins against a pacman that is likely to bring everything to that ring then yes he will go into the "best of all time" category , some say he is there already but i think judgement should be held for another 5 weeks .

Typhoon thats the spirit.....although this should have been 6 years ago.....the fab 5 was in their early mid 20's even Duran was in his 20's against Leonard.....Hagler was the only 1 older but atleast he was only 32......being 38 and still fighting old rugs and statues is pretty bad.....

I agree that he hasnt faced anyone nowhere near the fab 4 league but thats because theres nooner available. the same can be said for Pac, and that isnt their fault. only thing we can blame BOTH of them for is for not making the fight earlier

Depends very much on how you define ATG.

If we're taking the hundred greatest ever boxers, or even the fifty greatest, Floyd is there.

If we're talking the best ever ten, or even twenty, he's not.

And he has squandered the opportunity to get there, mainly with his long avoidance of the other great of his era, Pac.

However, he will face Pac in May, and so, better late than never.

If he wins (and he should be very slightly favoured to do so), then, given that both men are past prime to approximately the same degree, and given that even past-prime, they are the two best welterweights (and best pound for pound), this should boost him up the all-time rankings a bit.

IMO, if he beats Pac, and then fights two more good matches and remains undefeated, he would definitely be pressing the top twenty.

And if he makes top twenty or even close to it, I would rank him one of the all-time greats.

Still, I'm hoping Pac can put a stop to all that. :D

Very valid points and agree with you. Floyd has taken a safe path his career to keep hi 0 safe. The last half of his career has been a plethora of b rated fighters, good fighters for their time, but in the big picture, B rated at best. Then yes, you have A+ fighters in Mosley and oscar, however were considerably past thier primes, so the wins weren't impressive, and the oscar win was almost a loss when you consider things. I thought even though oscar lost that fight, it was a win for him, to stay so competitive with the p4p #1 fighter at a later stage where he was showing notable decreases in speed and explosiveness.
I personally don't rate him very high on the ATG list and rate a few guys even the past 20 years ahead of him.

Pac destroying ATGs Barrera than beating Morales 2-1 was pretty special, and for me puts him ahead of Floyd.

Roy defeated two PRIME ATGS. Floyd has defeated 1 so far and that was an Oscar De La hoya leftover. Floyd does need a win over Pac to really boost him up, but this fight really should have happened 6 years ago. So many people saying Pac isn't what he was etc.

Pac fans, you are excluded from any discussions concerning Floyd AND Pac. Fans just can't rely on your input when it comes to rating these two, sorry. Lol

The simple answer is yes. Like it or not he's definitely one of the top 50 greatest of all time.
