hes an ATG, but lower rung one than the top ones, and I don't think he will ever join that "undisputed atg" status rank. undefeated only means you are either early in your career, or faking it to some degree. hopefully pac puts him in his place.
I noticed you do this a lot. Let me guess, you are the same guy that agrees a lot with the consensus eventhough you may have different views.
The fact remains that Floyd has beaten a really high level of competition and defeated all comers in his generation. He has beaten more world champions than any other fighter in history which is an important overlooked fact. The only person he did not fight was Kostya Tyzu but that was because Tyzu was out injured. He defeated the unbeaten Hatton who destroyed Tyzu. Same way Azumah Nelson took care of Jim McDonell who defeated Barry McGuigan. I wish people would stop talking of the cheat Margarito. Mosley destroyed him and we saw what Floyd did to Mosley. It's highly insulting to insinuate Floyd ducked Margarito. Why would Floyd have to duck Margarito of all the people! The chances are Floyd would not only easily defeat Margarito,he would put him in hospital such is the disparity in their levels.
Threads like this are hard to understand, you would think someone on a boxing forum would not need to ask the question "Is Floyd Mayweather an ATG". Its ridiculous to say the least, every boxer, trainer, manager, promoter in the business today would say yes, without doubt he is. Manny Pacquiao and Freddy Roach would say he is, even Bob Arum would!! Its so easy to pick apart a fighters record and compare him to the "fab 4". Sugar Ray Leonard (one of my favorite fighters may i add) -When he was undefeated he lost to a career lightweight in Duran. If that was Floyd he would be hounded for fighting the lightweight let alone losing to one badly. -Admitted he took the immediate rematch within 4-5 months as he knew Duran would not be in shape. In todays era he would be cherry picking Duran. -Admitted he fought Hagler at the right time (At the end) in his career. -He fought Bruce Finch, Finch was coming off a win from an opponent with only 1 professional fight!!! -Fought Lalonde at a ridiculous catchweight even by todays standards. -He was blown away by Camacho, granted Leonard should have retired but he didnt so you have to judge the whole career. -Admitted he was lucky to get the draw against Hearns, said Hearns should have been given the nod. See how easy it is to do? If Floyd retires at 49-0 after beating Pacquiao,Oscar,Mosley,Cotto,Marquez,Hatton,Alvarez,Coralles,Castillio,Manfredy,Hernandez you really need to question wether he is ATG?
People keep spouting the same garbage without backing it up. Floyd ducked Prime shane- They were not in the same division back in 2002. Shane didnt take the fight due to toothache, see post fight interview. Ducked prime Oscar-Arum would not get him the Oscar fight so he bought out his contract like Oscar had previously done. Numerous videos of Floyd calling out both Oscar and Shane. Ducked Prime Cotto- Cotto was not prime at 140lbs, when he was sat ringside when Floyd destroyed Gatti. You really think the Cotto that struggled with Torres would have beaten the 140lb Mayweather? Cotto admitted in the 24/7 he hadnt chased the Floyd fight. Ducked williams and Margarito- What had these guys done to earn a fight? They were hardly big money makers. Williams was avoided due to his size bu most of the division. Both of these men went on to do absolutley nothing noteworthy in the careers. Probably wont get in the HOF. Ducked Winky Wright-When Floyd fought at 140, a month later Wright fought at 160. case closed! Ducked Tszyu- Floyd beat the undefeated Hatton that had just beat Tszyu.
when floyd fans get backed in a corner, they become rabid little trolls.. again, tell me which great fighter he has beaten aside from a past his best DLH (who i remind you all, almost beat him) and a 38 year old Mosely (who rocked him in 2nd round, even with diminished speed). The rest worth mentioning are Hatton, Cotto, Corrales, JMM. Canelo IMO is overhyped, has a lot to prove. The rest are not even worth mentioning (Ortiz, Guerrero, Maidana etc...) These are good fighters, don't get me wrong but i just don't feel Floyd has proven he is a top 10 ATG, i would rank him somewhere in top 20, around 20-15. Manny Pacquiao was his threat and he ducked him. He made that fight almost impssible by making demands he never made vs other fighters. Why? cause he saw something in Pac that scared him, making him think Pac was on PEDS. Now he's fighting him and i think he may be have made a mistake in waiting. I think Floyd has lost more than Pac and is older. Pac may prove to the boxing world that whilst Floyd was always a very good fighter, he was never as great as people think.
The strange thing about your post is that Oscar is arguably Pacquaos best win. Hatton again is in his top 5 as is Mosley.Cotto at a catchweight, Margarito unranked and with rehydration clause, outboxed and knocked out by Marquez, beaten to a pulp by Morales,Rios never fought at WW, Algieri never fought at WW. Come on now little man stop with the hate. use your silly little logic on all fighters not just Floyd.
The most annoying thing about the whole ducking stories is people actually believe Pacquiao spent the last 5 years calling Floyd out and making him offers that Floyd declined. In reality Pac declined every offer made to him and wouldnt take a drugs test. Not that big a demand when you think about it. Did Pac go to his gym and call him out, did he sit ringside at a Floyd fight and get in the ring afterwards to create hype, did he draw up an offer? Nope. "speak to my promoter" and a lot of stumbling and mumbling translates to "Pacquiao has chased the fight for years".
well, i'm not saying Pacquiao is also a top 10 ATG am i? Now i do think Pacquiao has faced better competition overall but slightly.. he has also lost 5 times. Having said this, he would've still been Floyd's toughest rival, why? cause Pacquiao is a 8 division world champion and the only fighter considered p4p king for years during Floyd's era. Additionally, his skills are above any other fighter Floyd has ever faced. What did did Floyd do? duck the sh$t out of him. When people say Manny ducked, it's laughable because all Floyd had to do is accept 50/50 (why not, Pac was P4P king at the time) and not request drug testing demands he never made of other fighters. That's it, simple? but no, he wanted to give the p4p king 40mm flat fee and demand drug testing whilst accusing him of using PEDs. This is ducking 101, in a deceitful manner, making it seem like Manny was at fault. so... he ducked and ducked but LATER realized, all all time greats never ducked their biggest threats. It was time to man up.. and i agree Pac didn't fight prime Mosely, prime DLH either, at least he obliterated DLH whilst Floyd almost lost to him. lastly, Manny is not the one claming he is TBE, it's Floyd. I argue far from it, maybe somewhere in top 20-15 all time, which is generous.
No, it's an indisputable fact that he did duck Margarito. Ducked him on two separate occasions circa 2005-2006. And as far as having "beaten more world champions than any other fighter in history" argument: we are in an era where belts are handed out like cotton candy at the fairground. Where the likes of Canelo can win a belt by beating Matthew Hatton, or Andre Berto can win a belt by beating some clubfighter like Miguel Gonzalez
yeah, i like the 'he has beaten many world champions' argument. Hell, Algieri was a world champion wasn't he? so many belts and so many average fighters holding belts
