He destroyed Corrales..... Nobody would deny that. But Hearns took Leonard to the brink by really outboxing the boxer before gassing and losing. It's just not the same.
I see Hearns beating Floyd rather easily... too much reach (8inches!), too much power, too much boxing skills, too big (6'1). He's like a bigger and MUCH better Castillo. Floyd would be outboxed and probably knocked out. The only way Floyd could've beaten him is by completely changing his style and attacking Hearns; this is what sugar Ray had to do after being outboxed for nearly 14 rounds! Sugar Ray was going to lose if he hadn't gone all out and gone for the TKO. Floyd, given his defensive style , 8in reach disadvantage and facing an elite powerful technical boxer like Hearns? almost sure loss. In all fairness, Hearns was almost a different division and floyd would've DUCKED him and avoided him like the plague.
Im not arguing that Floyd isnt a ATG as matter of fact i've been 1 of the main posters that says he is but like i said way early its "degrees" to it...
Out of the fab 4 I can see Mayweather beating Duran & Leonard, I agree Hearns was simply to big and Mayweather has never fought at MW so no use in guessing about a Hagler bout. The thing you should realize is comparing a guy who finished at WW to a guy's who ended at LHW as a reason he's not great really should tell you his greatness. How many former 130 are you putting up against former 168/75 fighters?
He certainly didnt beat the best version of Corrales he ducked out faster than a Bugatti on a 5 mile airstrip on Diego the destroyer post prison....
Leonard-Mayweather/Duran-Mayweather are 50/50 fight's in all honesty. And even still Leonard ended his career at 168/75 and Duran routinely blew up to close to 200lbs when he wasn't fighting how many former SFW's are you picking to even be competitive. People make these argument's like Floyd could never be great he'd never beat Hearns or somebody, but Mayweather's 4th division is guy's like Leonard, Hearns 1st a ATG SFW isn't supposed to beat an ATG WW to begin with. That's like saying Leonard's not great because he'd likely lose to Roy Jones at 175.
Watch Leonard/Duran II just because he couldn't outbox Hearns who had best boxing skills of that era doesent mean that he wasnt a ATG boxer.....the difference between all these guys of that era they all had power and they didnt have to just rely on "Boxing" like Floyd has to....guys like SRL and Hearns had the complete offensive toolbox....
Who has Mayweather beaten that makes you think he could beat Duran at 135? Or Leonard at 147? Mayweather would be the sizeable underdog is both these fights because of resume comparison. That doesn't mean he couldn't win because upsets happen.
Sorry your logic is just wrong if you take Leonard, Duran, and Hearns vs Floyd at their best they are all better and beat him at his best....and Duran even beats him at 135....
lol, some get carried away by saying fab 4 would own Floyd. I think it would be interesting. Duran - slower but tough as nails and dangerous. I think floyd wins but would be a good fight Hagler - too big for Floyd, Floyd would've never fought him Hearns - nightmare match-up for floyd. Floyd would've ducked him, too big, too much reach, too much power and too much skill at that size SRL - i can't see a clear winner here. No clear size advantage and no clear speed advantage. SRL would be the busier man, throwing flurries all fight, Floyd would be countering and being Floyd. Close fight, toss up Again, many people put too much weight on the 0 in 47-0. It's impressive, no doubt but when out of the 47 fighters the best he's fought is arguably a past his prime DLH, it's a bit disappointing. I still rank Floyd top 20, which many Floyd fans should be content with. The whole 'TBE', nah... just not enough to back it up
