Aaron Pryor vs Wilfred Benitez

You're not going to confuse Benitez with enormous activity. In fact, he would always be one of the best candidates to stand in the eye of the hurricane and be perfectly fine, picking out a weak punch to counter among the rest.

Benitez UD, maybe a stoppage, but it would have to be a perfect shot.

 

No chance Benitez stops Pryor. Pryor was a wonderful boxer in his own right when in the mood, his work rate was on a completely different level to Wilfred and would see him take a clear unanimous decision as he pushed the fight from the start till the end.

 

Aaron takes a close one over the teenage wunderkind.

 

I like Pryor here. Pryor had that whirling dervish, completely unpredictable way of fighting that could very well throw a textbook counterpuncher like Benitez off. Benitez might slip nine in a row from Aaron, but you'd know there was always going to be a 10th, 11th, and 12 shot thrown. He's not going to slip them all.

Benitez was always best with a guy standing in front of him, anticipating his shots and working off that. Pryor would not only be in front of him, he'd be on either side and also in back of him. All at the same time.

 

tough fight to call. Both SRL and Palomino said that Benitez was extremely hard to hit. In fact Palomino said it seemed like Benitez knew which punches he was going to throw before he did. And Benitez was considerably bigger than Pryor, and hit hard enough to be mentioned as having one of the knock outs of the year when he beat Hope. He also lost a majority decision to Hearns, which is a pretty good outcome given Hearns power and attributes. I doubt Pryor would fair so well.

That said, Pryor would likely give Benitez all kinds of trouble with his hirky jerky style.

All things considered I'd pick Benitez by decision.

 

Ray Leonard threw I think 25 right hands at Benitez in the first round. Missed every one of them.

Pryor By decision, Benitez wont stop the Hawk. Pryor is to busy to lose this. He gets a decision win.

Yeah, as much as I love Benitez, I think that there would be too much coming in at constantly, for him to be able to generate an effective offense, as in if Joe Frazier ever fought Jimmy Young, he'd have Jimmy too busy fending off the constant onslaught being launched against him by Joe. Quality volume punchers are usually kryptonite for low output defensive specialists.

 

A bit of a non sequitur, lol,..but now that I think of it,...would be an excellent match....possibly.

 

Pryor had a crazy punch pattern and tempo, and it would have been without precedent for Mayweather, pretty much...and Pryor could take the best from Arguello, so I imagine he could take what FM threw at him. The pressure and pace that The Hawk would set would be tremendous.

 

I'm with Sal. Pryor wins a close one on activity. The kind of tempo and varied punching angles that ecen Benitez would fail to pick off consistently.
