Better to look at it in terms of title fights against top ranked contenders. That lineal stuff is nonsense in an era where Cotto is the lineal middleweight Champion. And while it's easier to get a belt these days, it's also harder to unify. Discounting every defense a fighter makes of his piece of the title is unfair to guys like Golovkin who already has the majority of titles but is being ducked by everyone.

That lineal nonsense is as tired and outdated as any other belt.
