    Really, WTF? :blood

Is he retired from the ring or not?

Wikipedia says that he is, based on his debilitating injuries, and there's recent talk of him entering the political arena, but rumors have persisted that he is planning a return. The following videos date from last October and may or may not include mentions from the horse's mouth that he is planning a comeback with the goal of triangulating on a long-overdue showdown with his destined rival, Gennady Golovkin. (whose name litters the comment section, though in a sea of garbled trash-talk virtually unintelligible when translated into English...)

Does anybody have a clear answer? Or enough fluency in Russian to shed a bit of light on the above? :think

Should he return though? I mean if he does return after such a long layoff/age/injury there's no way it will be the same Pirog of 2011.

Last I heard he had an on going back problem that stopped him from returning and that was the end of it. He's probably smoking a big cigar and playing pool somewhere with yuri Romanov and Denis inkin.

    True, but http://boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=639200

He maybe can't hope to compete with Golovkin anymore, but he could do everybody a favor or two and knock off at least one unbeaten hype job. (paging Kid Chocolate... :hey)

@ the 3:40 mark of the second vid he says he's done with the sport for good because his injury hasn't been responding well to treatment and he is unable to train as hard as he would need to to compete at a high level successfully. He says he's contemplating a career in politics but that he's also giving serious thought to emigrating to the Venezuelan capital Caracas and opening up his own boxing gym.

Haha, true true, he could even earn reputation as a "hypejob killer", he's already got one name on his record. Maybe more to come. :deal

Who knows if this is legit.

    From March 1 2015. 2 Russian websites.

Having no defeats former world champion by the WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog Russian said he intends to return to the ring after three years of inactivity, if the popular world champion, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin Kazakhstani agree to fight with him.

"He's a real machine on getting wins by knockout. He is expected to power and aggressive boxing, though, in my opinion, its potential is much greater. In the US on HBO, we had to fight to take place. Americans wanted it, we were also ready to compete. But my injury prevented. Duel between us, by the way, is still waiting. If I have everything go well with my back and I'll be back in the box, only for the sake of the fight with Golovkin "- quoted" Komsomolskaya Pravda

Other than Golovkin I can't think of any recent MWs who would've beaten Pirog at his best.

Just sad, I firmly believe Pirog would've been the class of the division. How long he's been out and the injuries, I can't conceive of him making a comeback however. It just wouldn't be successful

:huh I made no declarative statements.

    The OP is phrased interrogatively.
