Hard to tell. On the surface it seems that he could potentially struggle with fitness. However - his raw talent is nothing short of exceptional. If he is committed and gets the right training then I see no reason why he won't succeed, even when he fights over 12 rounds down the line (fingers crossed)!

Im afraid will make a B.A.L.L.S of it over 8 rounds lads. I hope he qualifies, but I could really see him gassing over 8 after starting fast and then losing a close decision. I hope he's training his ass off now anyways, because if he doesn't show up in shape for his next fight, he doesn't deserve an Olympic place, bottom line.

 

Looks increasingly likely Spike-Eubank is really going ahead.

 

I think o Reilly will find it very tough to qualify for the Olympics with him nt been in the APB or Wsb, it doesnt leave too many places left so he will have to be on top of his game.. Any of the Irish lads not in Wsb or Apb will struggle to qualify i.m.o not because they arent good enough but simply because of the qualification process

 

Spot on Fenno and with so few places left im sure the corruption will step up aswell,
If you are not in apb or wsb it will be a very hard task to qualify.

Well put it this way - so far team Spike hasnt said categorically that Spike-Eubank ISNT happening. Until that happens theres always hope....

Hopefully this is just more 'hardball' tactics from Team Eubank.

Im saying---Hopefully CEJ isnt REALLY facing the less-than-sensational Sherrington ( a mediocre Australian middleweight), and that it is 'bluff' ....just a tough negotiation technique by Team CEJ to force Spike to accept their terms.
At least thats what I HOPE is going on.

Yea that makes sense read yesterday that Spikes team turned it down and I cant understand how that would happen. He would be desperate for that and has been for ages now. Must be a low offer or Spikes team has a plan for him and thinks he can go far, who is he involved with do you know?

Spike is managed/promoted nowadays by a Boston? guy - the lead singer with the Celtic-type music group the "Dropkick Murphys" Cant think of his name just now. Spikes last 2 fights were in USA as a result.

If terms are bad enough a boxer will, quite rightly, refuse them.

(eg Macklin refused Sturms terms for a rematch that HE wanted soooo badly!)

 

Willie Donoghue and Michael Nevin are through to the finals of the Nikolay Pavlyukov Youth Memorial in Anapa, Russia.
The Irish duo advanced from today semi-finals, Donoghue convincingly beating Uzbek Oybek Zhuraev and Nevin receiving a walkover over Russia’s current World Youth champion Bibert Tumenov, who picked up an arm injury in the quarter-finals.
Stephen McKenna lost his semi-final bout earlier today despite a brave performance.
Friday’s finals begin at 10am (Irish time). (The host nation are using more than one boxer in each weight class).
