Beterbiev has the same reach with Kovalev, in fact 1 cm longer, as listed on boxrec. It might've appeared so because he's not much of a jabber. He can eat some jabs from Kovalev but once he gets close and pulls off his "5 punch a second" combo, Kovalev's in trouble.

 

I am not debating that Kovalev's jab might trouble Beterbiev. Which is a fact. Not that he would win, but if he does, his jab will have to play a big part along with his great footwork and power.

But I just watched that second round 30 seconds ago and Beterbiev received four jabs in the face for the whole and one of them was really quite weak. Plus we saw in that round how Beterbiev inside game might trouble Kovalev. Beterbiev key to victory would be to close distance, while Kovalev would be to jab and use his footwork. We don't know how Kovalev would fight on the backfoot, he never really did, and that is probably why he had trouuble with Beterbiev before.

 

Beterbiev would knock the racist Kovalev out.

I think footspeed may well be the difference in the fight, Kovalev is lighter on his feet.

I was born in Russia and understood the interview perfectly.

By the way, the interview first appeared on allboxing .ru and more than 50% of the people commenting on it agreed with Kovalev (which did not surprise me one bit).

And I'm not Russian, I don't speak it so I'm not going to pretend I know what he said but I've seen people say conflicting things about it, some say he was racist, others say he wasn't.

So I really can't judge him on that particular case.
