Agree with BE.........it's actually kind of amazing and shows a certain level of skill to NOT headbutt more than he did, given his stature and style. Rushing in like that you couldn't help but smack foreheads a few times just by happenstance.

    Nicky Val.

He could have d****d himself all over guys but he never did. He would beat Haye using the tactics of the Clinchko but he fought clean and lost.

He had a good code of sportsmanship.

    Joe Louis and Floyd Patterson.
Both true gentlemen in the ring.

Marciano was no more dirty, and probably less dirty than most fighters of that era.

Many people would know that if more fights were filmed back then.

Marciano defeated everyone on his own merits, Crushing power, unmatched stamina, and will to win. Top 3 ATG at Heavy weight.

There are volumes of fights from Marciano's time.:huh
His fight with Co*kell is a masterclass in foul fighting.
Butting, low punching ,hitting on the break, after the bell, even hitting while on the floor, it's all there in one filthy package, demonstrated in a tiny, postage stamp sized ring ,[ 16foot]demanded and received by his corner.
The butt in the Charles fight is blatant and deliberate.

Was the C0ckell fight really anymore dirty than any other Marciano fight or was it something the British press tried to grasp from the affair? It was more patriotism than anything that Boxing News actually picked C0ckell to win with their headline "you can do it Don" and to save face the reporters concentrated on that aspect as if to get some moral victory in that Marciano would have been disqualified in a British ring, but he would not. Rocky would have been warned more that's all. The fouling angle took away from how one sided that fight was.

The Roberto Duran v Davey Moore fight was even more disgracefully officiated. I don't think there was much of a campaign to draw attention to the fouls used by Duran in deffence of Moore's beating as there was for Don against Rocky.

The best that can be said is the referees Rocky and other champions had at that time never warned the champion. so far as I know nobody complained. In all his title fights Weil was the only guy I saw complain during a fight and that was about what got in Rockys eyes in the Walcott fight.
