What sport comes to mind? Obviously conditoning has a lot to do with end goal/sport, but int terms of overall fitness, I doubt anything else comes close to boxing as far as fitness.

Swimmers for example as pretty well conditioned, however after making weight, technique is often the key to timing, not conditioning.

american football players, morbidly obese lads in full body padding who have to go of for oxygen after playing for 5 seconds, they must be in serious shape

I've trained with gymnasts at university. NO offense, but their cardio wasn't nearly as good as boxers. 220lb guys running 2 miles every two or three times a week was the norm.

ESPN Frontline had a documentary on Football palyesr. 60% develop demensia. That is far worse than even boxers. Also lots of ligand, joint and shin problems later in life due to the upper body weight in many of them.

Soccer is the closest in my eyes. Not as much conditioning when it coems to power or stregnth, they are built more like runners; but very much the same ability as far as sport/drills/reflexes. A running back half back in football a close 2nd for me.

I reckon tennis is one of the best all-round: sprinting, endurance, power and concentration are all tested for up to 5 hours - with no team-mates to take the burden when you need a breather. Incredibly competitive too - huge pool of talent across the world (not like some minority sports where only one or two nations take them seriously).
