C Ronaldo is fitter than any boxer.
    Most football/soccer players are.

Its unfair to compare boxers to top track & field athletes.
Boxers are conditioned to fight. Not general all round fitness.

The general consensus when measuring all round fitness using things like Vo2 is that cross country skiers are the fittest of all athletes.

    MMA'ers, Triathletes, Cyclists.

Regarding MMA'ers - Just watch some of the top fighters. They have INSANE cardio. Guys like Fedor (in his prime) fighting at HW and fighting 15 minutes at a high pace using EVERY MUSCLE in the human body, dishing punishment out and taking it, all at HW as well? Insane.

Regarding Triathletes - Those guys are aerobic monsters! Guys like Javier Gomez are the fittest guys on earth.

Regarding Cyclists - Brutal sport. At the top level, those guys have a Vo2 output which is twice that of the average male.

Boxing is second to cross country skiing.

    Still, boxing is SECOND.

    No it isn't.

    Two things:

    1) Most Boxers still use training methods from 40 years ago. If they used modern techniques they'd be ruined from exhaustion.

    2) A daily routine is Pads, Sparring, Running or more Pads. All they use - when it comes to output - is their hands. No kicks, grappling or mixing it all up. Punching isn't very tiring on the whole compared to what I mentioned due to the latter needing a LOT of energy.

Never thought of that. Although again, I am sure tennis running aspect is more like a hurdler instead of a long distance runner like boxers.

    Tennis is absolutely brutal.

    Put it this way...

Playing against the worlds best, for the possibility of hours on end, in the scorching heat, where fitness is king.

Nadal is without doubt in the top 5 fittest athletes on earth. Dude is a machine.

You have to be an aerobic AND anaerobic animal in that game.

Supposedly cross-country skiing is, but I assume that is race by race, and I won't pretend I know anything about the formats of the races.

I would imagine stage races in road cycling, and particularly the grand tours, require the greatest conditioning, since you're doing a brutal endurance race every day for three weeks, with only two days off, and the discipline changes every few days from flat to time-trial to high mountain stages and back again.

yep gymnasts don't need cardio so much, but they do of course need to train vehemently on their routines.

    Tennis, easily.

    Followed by Hockey.

    Basketball.

    Wrestling.

    Finally, boxing.
