An American's opinion on Joshua.

    As a heavyweight fan of amateur and pro boxing, I watched Joshua closely.

    He has elite level size. ( height / reach / weight in shape )

    Very good skills

    Very good, but not great power

    Very good, but not great hand speed

    Chin is a bit suspect. Joshua has gone down a few times, and wobbled by punches a fighter with a good chin takes without being wobbled.

    Good heart

    His weakness is very faster handed boxers near his size, or vs the big punchers with skills. He'll need to work on defense a bit, clinching when needed, and adapting when needed.

    Joshua is not Audley Harrison!!!! He's closer to Lennox Lewis. Not as good as Lewis, but a sure fire top 5 talent who can win a belt or two once Wlad retires.

    Grade A prospect.



    The Super heavyweight amateurs are loaded with grade A type of prospects. Here are some Joshua fought.

    Medzhidov! A brutal puncher with good skills, he floored and defeated Joshua. Grade A+

    Dycho - A 6'7"+ mobile boxer with some power. Easily defeats much shorter opponents. Joshua beat him on points. Grade A-

    Savon - The Cuban ( cousin of the legandary Fleix Savon ) has fast hands and skills. Likely beat Joshua on points in the 2012 Olympic games, but was robbed. Grade A-

    You wont get many, if any, boxers of AJ's size that also has faster hands to be honest, so he should be safe there. I think if he is to struggle it will be against smaller slicker fighters, or alternatively if he does end up being chinny, not saying he is or isn't because we haven't seen it, but his defence isn't his strong point anyway so he could get KO'd by big guys too

    I have seen enough in the amatuer's to judge he's neither chinny or very durable. When hit hard, he did show the heart.

    Long term stamina is a bit of an unknown at this point.

    Yeah but with big gloves and a head guard it is easier. There is no comparison, we will see, I hope he is very good as I enjoy watching him as it is

    We have seen it, except he was wearing heavily padded headgear and still went down like a whorre.

    Amateurs mean nothing, we haven't seen it in the pro game and that's what matters.

    Yeah that's exactly what they said about price when people brought him his chin issues in the amateurs.

    Your chin don't change as soon as you become a pro. We only haven't seen it in the pro game yet because AJ is yet to be tested (understandably) against someone who can really bang.

    Well that was vs, Nistor who's a grade A type of puncher! It was a pure chin checker hook to the jaw. It's not like a grade B type of puncher sparked him. Most amatuer heavies get stopped by the same punch. Some fans have no idea how hard these heavies hit, or what type of punch and where is the toughest to weather.

    Joushua also went the distance with Medzhidov ( who hits even harder than Nistor ) which is why I think his chin is solid.

    When it comes to prospects there is a tendency to assume fighter X has this type of flaws because so many before him in the region had the same.

    It's best to judge each prospect individually even if there have not been many durable English heavyweights.

    I am here to say Johsua has a better chin than either Wilder or Fury, and look how far each man has gone.

    All the times he was wobbled in tournaments and the Olympics show if you can hit him flush then he is going down.

    it doesn't matter if it's in the amateurs you carry the same chin with you up to the pros.

    Price had a glass jaw in the AM's. I would say Joshua's is better, but what you wrote is valid.

    I know, this is what I've been telling the AJ fanboys on here for aeons.

    They think knocking out guys who are not in any condition to be in the same ring as him makes AJ a beast

    They reference all the other HW's who fought journeymen in their first 10 fights not realising none them were blowing their own trumpet for beating those bums, they just got on with it

    Every single punch AJ throws at one of these bums are lauded by Sky, the commentators make sound as if he's knocking out world class opponents, jim ****t is the worst.

    Any country in the world would be excited if they have an Anthony Joshua in their ranks, so far he has been very exciting and done what he has had to do. The hard tests will come along soon enough. I think he can be hurt without question, but he will be a dangerous opponent to any heavyweight boxer who faces him. The guy ticks a lot of boxes for sure, look forward to seeing how far he goes.
