Wilfredo Gomez vs Alfonso Zamora

Alfonso Zamora may have had a puncher's chance against Wilfredo Gomez, but that is about it. The odds are overwhelming that Gomez would have destroyed the relatively crude Zamora in short order, much like Carlos Zarate did.

Gomez by ko. If Zarate could destroy Zamora, I think the bigger Gomez could too. If he's smart he'll box for a few rounds, then go in for the kill. If he goes toe to toe with Zamora from the opeing bell, Zamora could get lucky. That would be the only way he wins this.

Agree with the consensus...Gomez is technically better, and would get to Zamora...probably early.

 

Wilfredo was just too good for Alfonso to handle. Gomez would kayo Zamora in five rounds.

 

He's right though, red - what's the point? I'm rarely on here these days, but you're like a broken record with this every time I take a glance. Monzon, Napoles, Griffith, Galindez and all your other favourites beating overmatched mugs (and every other **** in their weight class) via the same idle, hero-worshipping non-****ysis. I'm all for freedom of speech, but it doesn't exactly encourage constructive debate, does it? Monzon vs Yori Boy Campas or some other ****. Especially when you're predicting knockdowns in specific rounds as a definitive occurence.

I reckon you'd get ****ed off pronto if there was a Monzon vs Patterson thread every other week, and you'd be right, because it's pointless (though I doubt you'd go as far as to outright admit that Monzon would get his murdering ****pipe kicked in, instead eulogising how clever and brave he was to never move up in weight etc).

I disagree. This is a legitimate thread. Zamora was still a very good fighter in '77 and a fight with Gomez would have been interesting, albeit Gomez would most likely win. I've seen much worse fantasy matchup threads.

True Red...but I gotta say I really like the Flea man...he is one of those indivduals who is generous with posting his films, and my hat is off to him...I appreciate that as a fight fan...but I also think posters should say what they want to say...you want to talk about Monzon? So be it...Burt wants to talk about Greb and Dempsey. So be it. It's all good..I talk about my faves too...I'm a unabashed apologist for several LMR, Napoles, Leonard, even Mayweather...give me a thread involving Floyd, and I'll vote for him 90% of the time.
