I think all of these are in the running for greatest fighter of all-time, pound for pound.

Any of you have them pegged as THE numero uno ?

    JOE GANS

    BOB FITZSIMMONS

    HENRY ARMSTRONG

    BENNY LEONARD

I'm not asking about Harry Greb because I already know that he's considered number 1 by quite a few people.
It's usually Robinson , sometimes Greb, sometimes Langford, who get placed at number 1. :good

I've got Langford but think Armstrong is a great choice and you could make a good case for Fitz. The other two, i'm not sure they can make it.

Not what you asked for but my thoughts nonetheless.

    That's a good response, McG.

I think any of the four can make it, as well as Robinson, Greb, Langford ..... and then someone can probably come along and get my ear on Charles, Pep, etc,

Hence why I can't make a serious list of my own!

Joe Gans in particular I find interesting, the esteem he was held in at the time.

Yes he was God for a while wasn't he? But then so was Jeffries.

I agree with you that Charles has a weird case, I'd have him on a par with Fitz personally.

Bob Fitzsimmons has a good case, and so does Henry Armstrong.

I would have both of these guys in my top five.

they all have a case for top 10, Leonard was my #2 lightweight under Duran. Armstrong is strong,Fitz has to be top 10 and Gan's has a case. Not my # 1 but they all have a case for top 5-10

Will someone please define what top pound for pound fighter of all times means ? It seems to me the term has become a cliché with ambiguous meaning behind it...?
Does it mean which fighter dominated his division more so than any other fighter ?
Does it mean which fighter was so superior that he was able to dominate his division and great fighters of heavier divisions ? What say you ?

For me, it simply means best fighter ever ..... but not in absolute terms, because that would be a heavyweight.

And, yes, I'd say BOTH of those things you mention are good criteria that would be big factors in deciding who is number 1.
