Bloody nonsense BJ. Did you see the way Quillin would lunge in with telegraphed lead right hands..and Andy would take them flush on the LEFT side of his chin cis he turns his head to the RIGHT into his own shoulderevery time!!! Cringe-able stuff to see. No guard, no head movement, lousy foot placement, no clue as to how to take advantage of his natural advantages in height and reach. I could go on but you'll jus say I've "a terrible understanding of the game"... :bbb
did a fun bet on the draw at 22/1 with skybet so not complaining. Had Lee by 1 round but could have gone either way really
Quinlin and Lee are top fighters. Lee would destroy Cotto. I do think Andy is a bit better though when he boxes off the jab using his height and Booth is getting him low, I think if he boxes like he did later on in the fight he can beat Quinlin easily. Booth has given him confidence though. Lee has serious ability and so does Quinlin
Well ok Jim jim at least you REPLIED. No sign of the other heroes, Moorser and BJ. I feel you are overrating Lee and Quillin though. Did you see Peterson and Garcia last night. THEY are "top fighters". Th no about it. This was Lees biggest opportunity if his career. He was in with a guy whose style should have suited him. A guy HNN comprehensively outfoxed when Quillin was in his prime. (As amateurs Andy drew with HNN. See how HNN ha progressed though, unlike Andy) Now here was an older, slower Quillin, unmotivated, who couldn't even make the weight and had been out for a year. A clearly messed up guy, bless him. Be honest now.....weren't you disappointed with what you saw last night? Weren't you expecting a better fight than that snooze-fest? This Was Andys BIG CHANCE. .....and he blew it.
First four rounds were better than anything all year. Quinlins the second best in the weight class and Lee outboxed him for most of it. Why are Peterson and Garcia better than Lee, Lee has all the punches,, huge range and with power and he can move well too.
I'm still waiting for someone to come on here and explain to me how Adam Booth has improved Andys BOXING SKILLS. In the other fight , Lamont Peterson showed improved boxing skills. As Lamont, a genuine top class boxer, said, boxing is the art of hitting without getting hit. Andys face told the story. Andy thinks "defence" is the wooden wall around his garden!! Andy boxes all wrong for his physique and he has ZERO defence. This is blindingly obvious to anyone who knows the sport. BJS (plus several other domestic Irish Isles middles) would beat Andy. Cotto, a career Light welter ditto. GGG would do his usual nothing in the first round and then ko Andy brutally as soon as he lets fly in the second round.
one thing andy needs to do is start warming up better in the dressing room as thats now twice in three fites he has been caught cold.... it probably cost him the fite on saturday:good
Yes he is relying on toughness and guts (and luck!) to get him through the early rounds. It's a shame Andy didn't go with a trainer who prioritised defence from the start. He would have achieved so much more. I can't understand people giving Booth so much credit. The only two bits of really top class boxing I've seen from Andy was the Vera rematch and the first few rounds against Chavez. For both he had Steward training him, (not that I think Manny did a great job either.). His last 3 fights..phew....you can see why Napoleon wanted lucky generals!
wheres andy lees brother these days ? always used to see him near ringside when he fought...running round the ring shouting 'boom!!' or something. ...seen him in dublin when lee fought years ago.....and when gunning took me and the missus to see lee train once in new york he was there in the middle of everything ...havent seen him at any of lees last fights.
People seem to forget andy was fighting on of the top guys in the division who was never put down before and won every fight, andy was big underdog with bookies, got put down ttwice, got back up and nearly won, andy is trading with the big boys and is definitely iimproving, bjs will be great fight for Andy, and cotto after this, one other thing is quillin was supposed to be under 174 for fight due to being over at weigh in but it seems he never weighed in before it,looked big.
Don't know the exact poundage...but it was reported the fight might not go ahead cos PQ breached the rehydration limit, whatever that limit was. Could Andy have refused to fight? If so how much would he get paid? Would he get all of the agreed purse? Or a percentage?
