If we had a time machine I'd love to see how much money you'd put down on Langford.... I feel it would be Diddly-Squat....

Purrity was a journey man and Wlad was a 24-0 , international champ and Olympic gold medalist.
Purrity wasn't a Schmeling or an Oliver Macall. He was a journey man so no excuse can be made.

And how was he not prime? How is it possible for Wlad to be in his prime going into the fight and than be prime again immediately after?

Did Wlad not fold again under pressure later in his career?

Did he need to over come such greats as Austin , Thompson , Chagaev etc - just to be able to over come a journey man?

2011- In his best prime years as you put it , Wlad faded down the stretch against Haye and was almost knocked out.

If he was in the peak of his prime years , how did he gas out against a Cruiser Weight who threw about 10 shots a round and had his back to the ropes for the majority of the fight??
How did he fade when he used his massive size advantage to lean and rest on the smaller guy almost every round

We're dealing with mediocrity here , not greatness. Greats don't lose to journey men in their prime.

He thought Haye, Povetkin, and Pulev would. Was very certain of it. Dino has quite the reputation for bad calls, so if he feels Langford can get the job done its certain he would not.

As a Wlad fan I can say he's most vulnerable vs opponents who have some size, fast hands, a lot of power, and a good chin. That limits the list.

I would pick Lewis, Tyson, or his brother.

Langford is obviously p4p a million miles ahead on the great list. I have guys like Arthur Abraham and Any Lee higher than Wlad on the p4p list.

H2H is a different matter though . He could probably beat Langford h2h.

    Dino,

A few facts. Wlad was 22. He was ill and at a low weight. Wlad had never been past 8 rounds. He was also fighting in front of his home town, and gunning for a KO. The trouble is he was facing a guy with an all time chin and never let the foot off the gas.

Had the match been ten rounds, Wlad wins.

Had Wlad's corner been better, I think he wins. A corner's job is to know their fighter and give advice.. Universum did not tell Wlad to slow down, or pace himself.

Wlad lost, but its clear he was no where near his best mentally or physically.

If the above factors were corrected prior to the fight ( Distance limit, better corner telling him to pace himself, not being ill and at a lower weight ), I think Wlad takes the decision. The Purrity fight was 18 years ago!

Here's what Purrity had to say:

“… I just let him punch himself out. I’m sure he would’ve knocked out a lot of guys before that. I just happened to take a good punch.”

Puritty believes Klitschko fell victim as much to overconfidence as to Puritty himself. "

Purrity was losing to a lot of up and comers at the time who had never been past 8 rounds before.

Example - Micheal Grant. Who was just 20-0 at the time and didn't have the experience or management Wlad had.

Rahman. Who was 13-0 and never went past 4 rounds.

Wlad knew Purrity wasn't going anywhere. The sensible thing would be to take the foot of the gas and coast to a decision.

    That wasn't the case.

Purrity forced him to fight at his pace. He didn't let up to allow Wlad lower his work rate. He forced it on him.
If Wlad slowed down , Purrity would have just knocked him out earlier.

Wlad has shown the same weakness throughout his career so the loss just can't be wrote off as easily as that.

And none of these up and comers had a 12 round fight scheudle vs Purrity. Only Wlad who lost in round 11. Had the fight been 10, Wlad wins.

Wlad did not know Purrity wasn't going anywhere. Did you read Puritty's own quote. He feels Wlad underestimated him! Universum had limited scouting reports back then on USA fighters. I agree Wlad should have taken his foot off the gas. He was young, and his corner did not help him. Management and Wlad's corner cost him in this fight.

BS! Did you watch the fight. Purity was a punching bag until Wlad tired. He only came on when Wlad gassed. He could not believe it himself.

Wlad's stamina has been the best in the divison for years. This was corrected long ago. In addition Wlad will take a points win over a durable type. See the Wach fight. When was the last time Wlad had a stamina weakness? 10+ years ago, and you're saying it has not been corrected? This is why you are not a serious player hater type, even though that's how you spend your days here.
