The Ring Magazine poll on best middles since WWII poll made me think as it was done in four groups. The Trainers, the Media people ( TV and Writing ), the Matchmakers / Promoters, and the Boxing Historians.

So in the context of rating a fighter that you aren't very familiar with, which group would you trust the most?

I would trust the trainers the least, as their lists are full of fighters they worked with or corners they beat.

Not sure who I would trust the most.

never trust anyone from the media especially when it comes to politics and sports

everyone is biased but the least may be promoters. boxing historians are also very unreliable

Don't trust a group. A group is full of fools. Trust a man.

Ranking fighters is nothing but a masturbatory exercise anyway. They're fun for the sake of fun and some fighters are obviously better than others, but trying to draw parallels between two different guys who fought different sets of fights in perhaps different eras under different conditions and decide which one really brought more to the table by re-setting each of them to some mythical "zero" point is really kind of pointless.
