Tua would have ended Louis' career if he was not secretly signed on a dive contract like some of Louis' Hollywood opponents were.
Joe can be overrated. Tua is a live underdog, and he does remind me of two ton " Galento". If Louis tries to engage and bomb Tua out quickly, he could be in some trouble early. After perhaps a scare, Louis will eventually crack Tua and knock him out.
Who ever took a dive against Louis, & what is the evidence? Louis carried some white opponents due to racism, & ended it with Galento because hi spower was a real threat. Louis occasionally had trouble with awkward styles the 1st time around, like Godoy & dehydrated foolishly against Conn. None of that suggests dives.
Tua had problems with Rahman, Izon, Maskaev and really anyone who could box a smidgen. Louis could box, a lot, and bang, a lot. Louis wins and might even get the KO.
Tua's chin is overrated, just like Chuvalo's. No one can walk through Joe Louis' punches, its just not possible to take them flush on the chin all night without getting hurt. The thing with guys like Tua and Chuvalo is that they were much more defensive and careful than people realise, they tucked their chins in and took absolutly no chances when in risk of being hurt. Look at Tua against Lewis, he just shut off and did nothing. The same thing would happen when he tasted Louis' power. I see Louis getting a wide decision against a very inactive Tua.
Joe Louis is in my opinion the greatest Heavyweight Champion, and I favour him over everyone else, prime for prime. That doesn't mean that he wouldn't be vulnerable to certain styles, though, and I think Tua, Dempsey and Tyson with their early viciousness have the best opportunity to stop Louis. Once Louis got into his rhythm he was deadly, and I think that he would weather the storm and beat Tua, but those early rounds would be tense for sure.
I think Tua has become the most overrated heavyweight on these boards. In terms of sheer bulk sure enough there's a difference,Louis is outweighed, but there's also a huge difference in sheer class. Tua isn't in the same class as Joe Louis, sure he would have the proverbial punchers chance, but he'd be eating Louis's jab all night as well as those murderous combinations. He's be beat to a pulp inside 8 or 10 rounds.
This. F8ck me, what has ESB "Classic" come to if people actually believe that David Tua has anymore than a small puncher's chance against arguably the greatest HW ever. Some don't seem to be able to see past the obvious factors of size and a big left hook. If Tua is/was such a monster, why did he not knock out EVERYBODY he fought and dominate the division for years? Because he was not as good as some on here clearly believe him to be, that's why.
Tua has a small punchers chance, but, in all likelihood he gets destroyed by Louis. It potentially goes the distance, but, I doubt it. Louis would take the fight very seriously based on Tua's size, and it would be a mismatch. That is over a prime Tua. Over the fat Tua, Louis definitely stops him.
Reading some of the posters who spout that Tua would have beaten Joe Louis prime to prime, makes me laugh and angry at the same time. Joe Louis would have destroyed the slow Tua in 3-5 rounds for sure. No slow punching fighter like Tua could absorb the powerful laser like combinations that Joe Louis shelled out and long survived. People mentions Arturo Godoy who lasted the distance with Louis in the first bout. Well Godoy was in a crouch so low his chin was close to the canvas. But Louis battered him in fight #2 for sure. Louis stops Tua ,as no slow fighter could absorb the Brown Bombers horrific combinations...I rest my case...
Yes but if Tua lands his left hook just like Galanto did Joe is going to sleep, that I have no doubt.
