What an idiotic thread .... All the 3 judges was american and only 2 of them give Byrd only 2 rounds ....
Punches was close, tho Vitali was ahead, but Vitali was way ahead with 35+ in power punches, which make the difference. Not to mention Vitali was the aggressor.

What makes you think Vitali didn't consider a rematch? Because it didn't happen?

Whether he considered it means nothing as im sure he did and chose not to pursue it. The fact he quit to a guy coming over seas on less than ten days notice has always bothered me though, especially since both were so highly ranked the next several years.

He also had massive advantages in reach and height yet was often backed up by a guy who was brought in on short notice.

I have the fight a draw that could have gone either way, maybe more to Byrd's advantage.

Vitali won the first 4 rounds in a row, but was getting tired by the constant missing and moving around and reacting to faints.

From then on, Byrd came up stronger and fresher. All rounds were close, but Byrd landed the cleaner shots.
And not the jabs, he landed full force blows, repeatedly, on a backward leaning and backpedalling Vitali.

I don't know about the injury. Vitali was still using both arms till the end. He may have injured himself swinging wild and missing.

Anyway, all he had to do, was survive the match, that would have been close.

    My score was 5-4 Vitali,

I saw the fight as competitive with Byrd throwing far fewer punches but being much more effective landing.

Vitali just missed and missed and missed, and I have watched the fight several times--each round twice yesterday--and the 5-4 is solid for me.

I don't give a fighter credit for missing.

So for me Byrd could have won on points if he swept the last three rounds.

Byrd won the 5th and 9th rounds.

    Judges were:

    Melvina Lathan
    Rubin Garcia
    Joachim Jacobsen

this was not an all German judge panel.

So you are implying that a guy with an Iron Chin and who was far ahead on the cards was worried about being stopped by a feather fisted opponent in Chris Byrd? :rofl:patsch

He must have been worried about something.. He did quit. Perhaps an Iron chin isn't the most important attribute of a fighter, having heart could be?:think

Byrd stopped him on exhaustion. Vitali couldn't continue. You can be up 11 to nothing and be stopped in the 12th.
You were still stopped and were unable to continue. Fight over. You lose.

Byrd punched the fight out of him and got a stoppage win. What is so hard to understand about that?

Arthur Abraham fought a murderous puncher in Edison Marinder with a broken Jaw and won but 6ft'8 250lbs Vitali Klitschko couldn't man up for 6 more minutes against a short powder punching formers super middleweight.

I will never understand why Vitali quit, I thought he was winning clearly, he has also shown toughness in other fights.
