Of course they pulled out because they would get outbid. No one is disputing that, I was just wondering why WBC gave them no time at all to freely negotiate :think

I was going by Google, but ok is an inch or and inch and a half such a big deal, 5'7 to 5'10 is 3 inches, 5'10 to 6'1 is 3 inches. So Isnt It hypocritical of u to call GGG a coward for fighting a guy 3 inche's shorter who happens to be the lineal champ OF HIS WEIGHT CLASS, but then also calling him a coward for not fighting a guy 3 inches above him and in a different weight class?

How are you not seeing the hypocrisy?

I can't fault HBO or Kovalev for pulling out of a mandatory WBC purse bid like that. The rules are such that the WBC champion Stevenson would get 3/4 of the purse bid to the challenger Kovalev's 1/4. Considering that Kovalev has 3 belts to Stevenson's 1 and is the bigger draw, that's not a fair deal. Haymon was hoping to pick up Kovalev for peanuts while still paying Stevenson a ludicrous fee.

Actually the purse bid would've been 50-50 for both fighters.Team Kovalev should've taken the fight, beat Stevenson and return to HBO as the king.

I didn't call ggg a coward for not fighting ward......I'm saying why does ggg get a pass for wanting cotto and not moving up to fight a bigger guy yet ward, who has done way more in his career, gets called a ***** for not fighting kovslev.......me making fun of ggg for cotto is reactionary to all the **** I see and hear around here with he double standards.......but if I'm looking at the cotto situation objectively I'm wondering what he wants with cotto other than to use his name .....because beating him means nothing to me....and ggg could use doing some worth something .....cause his career leaves a lot to be desired as far as competition

Ggg can keep going with his career as it is.....but if he does it won't mean much at the end of it...and adding cotto to it, at this point, isn't changing it

Maybe because Ward has fought at LHW in the Olympics, fought that at one time lineal lhw champ and stopped him, and also happens to be taller than Kovalev?

Btw I'm a huge fan of Ward and think he's a p4p great, but I'm also a fan of GGG, why's it so hard to say their both great boxers in their own right?

Read my edit, and read my post history, I'm a huge fan of Ward.

It just so happens your such a big hater of GGG that u have this weird paranoia or conspiracy theory where everyone is out to get you or your favorite fighter.

I think both guys are very good.....and I happen to think of cotto in a good light too.......

But ggg gets a free pass from way too many idiots while ward gets hounded to no end.......and ggg fans want cotto as a scalp because ggg needs one bad.....and cotto doesn't belong in the ring with ggg imo....it would prove nothing to me....no more than ggg beating murray

Trust me....stick around and read posts.....you'll see exactly what I'm talking about....I like ggg and like watching him ....and ward is way down the list of my favorite fighters

I'm also a huge fan of both fighters. Triple G should stay at MW and Ward should continue to fight at SMW, but it the opportunity came up where he could possibly fight Kovalev, I would take it. Triple G if he wants Ward has to come up to SMW.

Herc.....when I look at the situation....I compare it to floyd and pac....I like pac and have been to two of his fights ....but I'm more of a floyd fan...., but over the years listening to pac fans on this board and elsewhere have almost made me dislike him....in fact they have made me attack him which is reactionary because of the way they've dogged floyd and just acted like irrational idiots ....I see ggg fans acting the same way letting things slide with their guy and attcking others for similar behavior ......I suspect many ggg fans are also pac fans so it doesn't suprise me.....I've always liked pac as a fighter and for the sport....same with ggg.....but some people will say anything to defend him and discredit fighters who have done way more

Little question: if all this would go to the purse bid, dows that mean the WBC champion would get 70% of the purse automatically?

This whole situation smelled funny from the start if we're honest. I'm sure there are reasons not even known to the public yet about all of this.

    GGG can...

    A. Stay at 160, defend his title, wait for his massive PPV fights with Cotto and Alvarez, and then move up to 168 to fight Ward if Ward feels like it.

    B. Go to 168, fight whoever is interested, and wait for his modestly-paid PPV fight with Ward if Ward feels like it (Froch isn't interested).

Hmmm...stay at 160 where 2 of the 4 PPV fighters in boxing reside, where you have a title, and where you're physically comfortable.

Or go to 168 where there are no PPV fighters, where the champ will insist that you win about 5 fights to prove yourself worthy of taking a 20% cut of the revenue generated by 4,000 fans in Oakland, and where you're undersized.
