@capt @shockmaster, seems like we're in the same boat. Obviously the racist trolls on this site (from both sides) make us hate whichever fighter they back, I get that, but still I try to stay as impartial as possible.

As far as the purse bid goes, this is really disapointing from Kovalev's and Duva's camp. It's a 59/50 split, I don't understand what the problem is. I'm almost positive Kovalev isn't scared of Stevenson, but this is still really annoying.

Maybe they're generating talk and hype for now, and then after Kov's mandatory; they will make the fight in fall?

Cotto is not going to fight ggg.......do u honestly think he will? I highly doubt he will.....so take cotto out of that equation ........cotto and Alvarez will fight each other before ggg fights either of them......ggg will be waiting and fighting the mw of the month club in the meanwhile ...

I love how u all insist ward has to fight in oakland like he ain't fight froch on the east coast ......could do a ward/ggg fight at msg......ggg is known in NY

WBC championship purse bid are something close to 3/4 to the champ. But the rules actually are that that is the normal way and if the promoters agrees to something or if the fight is kind of exceptionnal (like unification), than it can be something else. GYM already said that the bid would be 50/50. So the 3/4 split is not an excuse. Basically, Duva knows she will loose the bid, and HBO doesn't want to let go Kovalev for one fight. It was a faire deal: the one who win the bid, win the network. Anyway you look at it, it is Kovalev's camp which is at fault here. Eventhough he was right saying "Stevenson is a piece of ..."

I'm not saying what u say is wrong.....buttt.....ggg is far from a new flavor of the month ...., he's been a flavor for a while now.....so the fantaticism has been rampant for awhile.....

I think alot of the ggg hate threads are reactionary.....the way alot of pac threads are.....pac/ggg fans defend their fighter irrationally and cut down other fighters .....and then someone goes in on ggg or pac making a thread to mirror it ....I think if ggg fans were realistic, objective and respectful of other fighters you wouldn't see many ggg hate thresds....and their are good ggg fans here....but too many trolls....most ggg hate threads are response to trolls

I don't understand this bidding/purse stuff but didn't Wilder make more than Stiverne who was the WBC champ coming to that fight? Why would he agree to that if 3/4 is the standard? Again, I don't try to refute anything, I just want to figure it out.

Will Lampley go on his show and passionately denounce HBO and/or Duva for depriving fans of this fight just like how he blamed Haymon whebn it fell through last year?

It's funny those who have defended Stevenson are now pouncing on Kovalev on the first opportunity they get. Hypocrites.

Stevenson caught exponentially more flack than Duva has, and I see just as many hypocritical comments coming from those who killed him now attempting to defend Main Events.

Maybe because his move was far more blatant.

Purse bids are usually called for when there is a champion and a mandatory contender, and a the sanctioning organization (WBC, WBA, IBF or WBO) asks the two sides to negotiate, but the two sides (the fighters' managers and promoters) can't agree to terms.

So the sanctioning body throws open the doors and any licensed promoter can submit a blind bid (meaning you don't know what the other promoters are bidding) to put on the fight.

They usually agree to a purse split before the bids are offered. (A split of 75% to the champ and 25% to the challenger used to be the norm, but you can agree beforehand to make it 60-40 or 50-50 or whatever.)

The promoter who submits the highest bid is the promoter who gets to stage the fight.

The champion usually likes his promoter to win. The challenger likes his promoter to win. Sometimes a promoter wins who doesn't handle either fighter.

And, of course, this option has its faults, too.

For example, Roc Nation outbid everyone for the Peter Quillin-Matt Korobov fight, and instead of going ahead with the bout Quillin vacated his title.

It can also backfire on a fighter. Mickey Bey supposedly turned down an offer of $200,000 from his own promoter Mayweather Promotions to defend his title the night before Mayweather-Pacquiao against his top-rated Russian challenger.

Instead, Bey wanted a purse bid. And it was announced today that the only promoter who bid on the fight was Top Rank - which bid $78,000 (probably just a token offer, thinking they'd lose). So Bey will get 75% of that - which comes out to about $58,500. And if he doesn't take it, he has to vacate the title.

    So he's messed up.

The REAL question is how long will it be before HBO gets on the PBC bandwagon?

Al Haymon has deals with NBC, NBC Sports, CBS, CBS Sports, Showtime, Spike and now ESPN to televise boxing.

Haymon has agreed to pay them millions to simply air his shows.

Those networks don't have to do anything but sell him air time and pocket millions. It's costing them nothing.

Soon, HBO will be THE ONLY U.S. television network actually spending money to put on a boxing show.

Of course, promoters like Kathy Duva prefer the old system. HBO pays her a licensing fee of a half million dollars to put on a show. Without that licensing fee, she wouldn't have a pot to pee in. She uses the network's money to pay for her cards.

But at some point the executives at HBO have to go to their head of sports programming and ask him why they have to SPEND millions of dollars a year on boxing while every other network is MAKING millions of dollars A MONTH televising boxing.

After all, how many subscribers are signing up for HBO each month to see Gennady Golovkin? Is that number worth paying Golovkin's promoter a million dollars?

In years past, HBO could refill its boxing coffers by selling a couple huge PPVs a year. But those days are gone. Aside from Manny Pacquiao, who do they have that can sell PPVs?

At some point, isn't it just going to be easier for HBO to collect a couple million a month selling air time to Haymon ... instead of giving money to Kathy Duva - who'll just keep delivering Steve Cunningham, Czar Glazkov and Isaac Chilemba (like she did on NBC Sports) ... whether you want them or not?

Blatant insofar as he blatantly made more money fighting Fonfara on Showtime than he would have on HBO, while Main Events are walking away from a purse bid pretty much guaranteed to pay Kovalev more money than any other option.

Thanks for taking the time to write this.

I'm kinda glad for what happened to Bey as he had won that belt with a complete robbery.
