catchweight is fine. it makes it possible to see 2 fighters in different division fight each other.

I don't mind it when it is needed for 2 fighters from different weight classes to have a bout.

However, I never think a title should be on the line during a catchweight bout. Full weight limit or not for the title in my view. You can fight for pride and money if you don't want to fight at the full weight limit for the belt.

I am tired of catchweights, if Cotto is going to pretend to be the 160 lb. champion, he should fight at 160.....................I knew Cotto would refused to fight Golovkin, mandatory of not. Golovkin knocked Geale out, so Cotto decided to fight Geale..............what a crock of ****...................

    Bad, almost categorically, without exception.

For me, the main problem is too often they are decided on to make it an advantage for one fighter rather than fair on both.

There's enough weight classes in this day and age to be able to pick one that suits both fights and I don't think titles should be decided via catchweights

    No.

One up, the other down, or I don't care.

Preferably up though, especially in a Ward v Dawson style situation, where Dawson had been fighting at 175 for years.

Both fighters had already competed at the full middleweight limit so no catchweight should have been needed.
Both fighters had already competed at the full middleweight limit (against each other, no less) so no catchweight should have been needed.
Both fighters had already competed at the full welterweight limit, so no catchweight should have been needed.
Both fighters had already competed at the full junior middleweight limit, so no catchweight should have been needed.
The first case from your list where a guy was moving up and it was over 20 years ago.
Oh boy what a pity it would have been to have missed out on this most necessary fight!
3 was a catchweight simply because Golden Boy could match the rights to Marquez's next fight. 4 was not a catchweight fight.

Literally most of your list supports the idea that catchweights are most often used these days as a way for the bigger draw to gain an advantage. This is pretty much the only interpretation for what Oscar, Pacquiao, Mayweather, and Williams did when insisting on catchweights at divisions they had already competed in.

Good. Jumping up and down weight divisions repeatedly is NOT good for your health. Look what happened to Jones.
