um- thats what 'reflexes' mean. the ability to see/process and then react of course all of our eye***** move at the same speed. of course we all think at the same-or similar speed- "oh thats a fist". and of course if we were all asked to touch a button- we d all press it a similar speed. reflexes are the ability to tie these three processes together- and along with hand eye co-ordination are essential for an athlete....
I knew it! I coulda been a contenda! I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am. But seriously, sounds like an interesting documentary, what's it called?
Ya I think in this documentary they're defining reflexes in a different way than we're thinking about them. I don't think he believes that any of us could actually react to a punch like RJJ if we just trained a lot and tried real hard. Still sounds like an interesting watch though.
also, i think drivers reflexes aren't the same as an athletes. a driver has to move their hands. an athlete requires entire body movement wchih involves entire muscular movement and co-ordination, balance, muscle development. you can't compare the physical reflexive marvel that is roy jone jr- who's body is an f1 car- and his reflexes - to freakin schumacher- who is basically a glorified video game player. these guys are physical freaks- their bodies are perfectly in tune with their mind and eyes. - we re talking about those reflexes- the ability to dodge a punch- not some dork and a f1 driver to catch a freakin ruler. its like comparing a nerd to the nerds friend and seeing which one is a bigger stud..
Your missing what i am saying .... its not reflex's that make these guys fast or able to react at stupid speeds. Reflex's are not the correct term to be used here. Guys like RJJ have the same reflex's trust me. What they can do that our brains cant comprehend is that their brain can deal with a lot more information (in the ring) than ours can. For example there willbe so many things they do in the ring that are automatic and dont require "thinking" meaning they can then focus on all the things that they havent worked on thousands of times before. ps the documentary was a bbc effort cannot remember the name but it was essentially him not believing he had the same reflex's as a F1 driver/Fighter Pilot. And sorry but what the boxer and the F1 driver are doing is very similar ALL information is processed by the brain none of it the body .... the brain reacts not the body. Sure having its the boxers reactions that we are talking about here not his reflex's. they are different.
there is no such thing as a "physical reflex" its all signals sent from the brain. What you are referring to is reactions which are not the same. Sorry to be nerd man, its something that grates me when comentators (of all sports wrongly talk about reflex's). Have a go if you want personally i always like to learn something new.
Obviously not some internet freak like your goodself. How many accounts/posts do you have? Sun is cracking the flags mate, venture out once in a while.
I see what you're saying :good You're talking about what is likely the correct scientific definition of reflexes while this thread was meant to have people offer opinions on fighters prowess in terms of what 'reflex' has come to mean colloquially. "Which fighter's brain has the best ability to deal with a lot of information and process it instinctively into action" doesn't have the same ring
Yeah spot on although it can just be called reactions !! As i said its something that annoys me when listening to people talk about such and cush has better reflex's. It takles away from the amount of prep work these guys go thro' They dont "react" the way they do just cause they have a physical reflex better than such and such. Its all down to practice and repeating things over and over and over ... to be able to react like they do takes insane amount of practice so that the brain doesnt have to process half as much info (its kinda done automatically). Building up as many automatic functions to alloy more time and space to focus on the more difficult/less practiced making adjustments or more random things that take place in the ring. These guys have these reactions "reflex's" as referred to thro massive amounts of hard work and training over years and years
ali., back in the day - hes so fast to react that he makes his figths look like prearranged fakes, its unbelievable in such a big man.
