Anyone think The 1940's Heavies Were On A Par With The 1970's?

I did post a list. And Bobick didn't make it. His best win came against a very green Weaver. By the end of the decade, Weaver would've spanked him with ease ... as did most of the better fighters.

The 70s was loaded. I don't know why people are focusing on the weakest of the lot and not even mentioning some of the better names.

There actually were a stack of newspapers on his porch when he died. That's one way they knew how long he'd been inside.

His wife could read ... she was out of town.

I say the 70's kicks the living stuffing out of the 40's

I say it spits in the 40's face and then bends it over and pile drives them into the ground

then I say the 70's crowd rushes the 40's crowd unexpectedly dropping them, then putting the boots to them leaving them on the ground bleeding but not moving,,

but seriously, I think those guys in the 40's would be too old by the time the 70's rolled around,,

man it is not easy to post smack talk without swearing,

it takes me 10s longer to think up my posts

Galento was durable and could punch like a truck, he also had stamina and knew how to fight dirty, the version that took out nova is going to beat a lot of guys on that list. Watch nova Baer fights, he was no joke. Norton, shavers, quarry, coetzee, suspect durability guys like that better be careful.

Roland Lastarza was rated in the year end ring magazine 1949 annual ratings. At number 10

Why anyone is contesting the date of Liston's death seems beyond odd to me.

His wife found him on January 5, 1971, and he is described as badly decomposed.

The police estimated the date of death as December 30, 1970 off the number of newspapers and milk bottles on the porch,

and probably the extent of decomposition.

Not being able to read doesn't necessarily mean you would leave newspapers, and milk bottles, outside on your porch.

I also don't think his death date is relevant. What matters is that Liston had only one fight in the 1970's regardless of the cause.

The Ring Record Books say he was,

but I think it is kind of a moot point. LaStarza won 37 fights in the forties and was coming off a win over Cesar Brion, whom I consider a better fighter than Wepner, the only man Liston defeated in the 1970's.

Exactly. If a 40 or older Liston on fresh off a brutal KO loss was really top 10 for cutting up Wepner, maybe the 70s isn't all that deep or ratings aren't that important. No question Lastara contributed more to his decade in question.
