Rating Old Foremans punch resistance

    Without discussing Old Foremans weaknesses, I'd like a consensus on just how good his chin was and who had a good shot at KOing him during his second career. After re watching Holyfield light him up without knocking him down, I'm wondering-- who would you put in there to knock old George out? I'm not talking about a TKO due to swelling or cuts, but specifically putting him on the canvas for a 10 count.

    I think that its a taller order than what some would think. Beating him on points was possible, but everyone in there with him was warry of his power.

    I think, of the fighters around at that time, maybe Lewis and Bowe, because they had the reach to get him.

    But I wouldn't count on either of them getting the job done.

    With a durable fighter, you can never be sure that they will get KOd before they get TKOd, so what you are asking is a tall order.

    I think that Tyson or Lewis would probably have handed him some sort of stoppage loss, had those fights ever come to fruition.

    As for Lewis, after getting Ko'd himself and fighting more cautiously, I think he wouldnt risk it for fear of getting KO'd by an old man. Im not saying Lennox had a terrible chin, but I'd rate Foreman's higher if they got into a slugfest.

    And for tyson, I doubt he had the reach or style to do it. Even if his handspeed was fast as hell at his peak

    Foreman was the best judge of this. He openly said he'd never fight Lewis or Bowe. He'd have tried Tyson for the money but been KOed as well. Still, he took bombs from Holyfield and Moore and survived Morrison and he has to be given a ton of credit.

    Whether you think it was genuine humbleness or an act, Old Foreman consistently downplayed himself and spoke highly of his peers in the sport.....point being I think Old George said alot, I think its a better idea to judge the film.

    Good question.

    I think the shot an old George would have been susceptible to was the straight left from Sanders. Simply because he would not be able to set himself for it or see it coming. And from a southpaw and I think that punch from another tall guy like that can come right down the pipe on George over those hands.


    Wlad's right hand might do the same thing, but he really didn't throw it that often coming over the opponents jab. If he struck with that big right hand by laying that kind of trap, I don't think George absorbs it.Left hook? not sure about that--possible if it was like the 9th round and George was fatigued maybe.

    But it's going to take a precision shot George does not see coming or anticipate.And it would not be easy getting him to that place where he'd be vulnerable.

    lakusta wasn't that heavy, dont think he was anyway....he was a smaller heavyweight.

    yea...i'll look at it again later and refresh my memory on it

    I remember that one. ****ey who could hit hurt Foreman in round one.

    Foreman took a solid punch from the 90's to 2000's, but he was not going to every have a match up with Lewis, Tua, Ike, or Tyson.
