It took PBF longer to adjust to Maidana in the first fight because he was cut in round 3 or 4 for the first time in his career but people forget about that. That cut bothered him had he not got cut he would have won those two rounds he lost because of it.:deal

Fair points. It seems we see things much the same way, and that our main difference is in the subtleties of how the perceived momentum plays out.

It could very well play out as you say, but I'm not sure that Manny is a far more complex puzzle to figure out. I just think he has far more tools than the Maidana that need neutralizing.

Fair points, and I may have been a touch one-sided in identifying flaws, but that's largely because I think the fight depends more on where Floyd really is in the aging process. And I did point out two flaws, major ones, in Pacquiao - his inability to make proper adjustments and his lack of true finishing power at welterweight. Those are flaws, I think, that will ultimately lead him to deserve to lose.

It's the same track for like 12 minutes straight. Not sure what it's called, something from a royalty free music & sound effects package I bought years ago.

If I have time, I may some day venture into tributes of that sort.

I feel like a total burnout that I totally forget a segment I intended to dedicate towards JMM.

    Some excellent points! :good

The mental/physical endurance is certainly something that will be a major factor as the fight progresses.

I agree that Maidana is the kind who doesn't get bothered by B-side status, and, if anything, I think he may thrive off of it, in some ways similar to how Hopkins has thrived off being the underdog oftentimes in his career.

But I never was big on Maidana. Not to sell him short. He's good at what he does. But I thought the elevated status he received by many following the Broner win was a bit overblown.

Good points Scar, and on your finishing note, I too hope this is a controversy-free, no BS type of fight. But I'm not holding my breath.

What you say about Pacquiao is true, that he's never been beaten up badly since he rose to fame, even in losses. Kind of like Hopkins pre-Kovalev.

But with Maidana? I don't know, man. If Maidana stylistically had this perfect style for Floyd, I remain convinced he would have had a far better showing against Alexander. I'm convinced Maidana's moments of success against Floyd were not the result of a style-issue for Floyd, but rather Father Time.

But, we haven't seen Floyd fight anyone besides Maidana since the Canelo masterclass. That's where a lot of my questions surrounding Floyd stem from, and I'm apt to believe Floyd's issues with Maidana were, first and foremost, age related.

Yea I think Maidana surprised alot of people. Everyone knew what he did with Broner, pretty doubtful he'd do to Mayweather, but when he did, it showed how much Maidana had improved under Garcia. Floyd had to use every ace he had up his sleeve in order to pull ahead late in the fight. Not since Castillo had anyone givin Floyd the close encounter with defeat. Floyd won clearer in the rematch, but still not a walk in the park, Chino had fewer moments in that one.

I'm sure you know this anyway, but Alexander fights nothing like Mayweather. Mayweather tends to confuse and deceive opponents more-so that he does apply one(defensive or offensive) strategy. Sometimes you see him initiating attacks in there, sometimes he would be on the defensive and sometimes he's doing a little bit of both without picking one predictable strategy. Maidana's rough house fighting style is designed to not allow Mayweather switch gears at will and pin him forcefully into fighting one defensive style. By forcing him purely on the defensive, Maidana gets more comfortable dealing with that one defensive style and willingly picks the right positioning and punches to effectively deal damage. By doing that, he forces Mayweather to be predictable for a brief moment to land his own and be in the fight. If that rough style isn't fully applied, Mayweather will slowly develop a rhythm and become more comfortable and confident into being as multi-dimensional as he so pleases. If that happens, he almost immediately picks up the pace and makes it obvious that he's in charge. Mayweather prevailed against Maidana simply because he was physically able to handle the pressure and inevitably wear Maidana down. As soon as that happened, Mayweather quickly started taking charge. De La Hoya, Hatton and Castillo applied a similar strategy and all had great moments in there. Mayweather was just too good to allow them to prevail and handled their pressure. This is why despite being a fan of Mayweather for over a decade now, I always thought Paul Williams would beat him.

What gives Pacquiao major advantages are four attributes. He's a southpaw, has serious speed, is very active and has power in both hands. Sure his power isn't of the one punch KO type, but can inflict serious damage with a single shot. He needs to stay active and should not, under any circumstance, pose in the middle of the ring. If he poses there as he did with Algieri, it's going to be another Alvarez-like masterclass for Mayweather.

Again I say, I do agree that age also played a major role in allowing Maidana to have great moments. Definitely not denying that, but his style had a bigger role in my personal view.

Is there any name to the track? :D

Enjoyed your video, Rumsfield (except the bit about BHop deserving a w over Joe. Bernard wasn't a factor at all after the fourth. Lucky not to get stopped.)

There is somewhat of a parallel with Hopkins, but at least BEFORE the fight, I see some similarities with Leonard Duran 1.

The bigger, slicker man is the favourite. He's been through fewer wars, but he's never had to deal with this type of opponent.

He claims he can brawl with the smaller man, and his natural size and strength will get him past the cruder pugilist.

(Floyd is bulking up and 'suggesting' he'll go for the KO).

He's undefeated and carrying that '0' into the fight against a man who has tasted defeat.

He came up through the amateurs and distinguished himself in the Olympics, while his smaller but very tenacious opponent scr aped his way up from the streets, fighting professionally since before he was old enough to sign a contract.

I hope we don't hear his fans, a few weeks hence, telling us he fought the wrong fight.

On the KDs, I think if Floyd goes down twice in a an early round, as you predicted, if there's a minute or more left, he's a goner.

But I don't see Floyd going down. Maybe a flash KD like the uncredited Judah KD. Nothing more.

I think Manny goes all out from the 3rd minute of round 1 and is leading at the halfway point.

I see Floyd making the adjustments and coming back to edge it in a CONTROVERSIAL decision.

I 'm a Pac fan so I hope I'm wrong, but I give Floyd a razor thin edge here to pull off the W.
