You do understand that there are so called "styles" in boxing right??? If Pacquiao is an orthodox and has a 72 inch reach,, he'd probably use the jab more and fights on the outside which makes him an outboxer,,... If he has a huge frame and arms,, he'd stick to his opponent's face and dig that body out which makes him an infighter,,... But then,, if he has both or at least one that only means he is not Manny Pacquiao right???

Why does he use the in-and-out tactics??? Its because he lacks in physical attributes and makes it up with good techniques,,...

Why would he change his style??? This style has made him the first and only 8 weight division champion,,... That's what makes this fight interesting - Mayweather's style vs Pacquiao's style,,... If I'm wrong,, this fight wouldn't get buzz over the years and won't even have been made,,... Guess what??? They're fighting,,...

    Pacquaio does throw body shots.

Watch his fights against De La Hoya, Margarito, etc.

    Even Algieri.

He throws body shots against taller opponents. The body shots are going to be there against Mayweather.

Barrera doesn't count because he lost,,... Did Barrera employ the same tactics??? He was doing even more,,... He was circling to Pacquiao's right side to avoid the left hand power shot,,... Clottey was doing your so called "foot placements" as well,,... You know what happened,,...

Past-prime Morales my ass Fl0m0tazo,,... Years later he gave both Maidana and Garcia fits,,... Even winning a world title,,... I didn't know that 29 years is the ceiling for a boxer,,... Nice **** there,,...

And for the record,, Prime Marquez can't even drop Manny Pacquiao,,... Let alone knock him out,,...

He was pretty dynamic against Margarito too.
He was mixing his punches to the body, in the middle of the guard and behind the guard.
Against JMM and Bradley he would throw hard punches to the chest early on.

    Glad you're back Bogo!
I've always seen the same pattern on FMJ's defense and I've told people over and again that it's the JMM and Morales style that will trouble Pacquiao more, as is evident in JMM TKO6 Pacquiao.
You have to trade with Pacquio intelligently by employing simple lateral movements to take his angles away.
You can't just back away and pray to god that your retreating legs are faster than Pacquiao's all out offensive leg power.
I won't be surprised if Pacquiao completely overwhelms Mayweather on work rate and activity and limit FMJ's connect percentage too and win on points.

Pacquiao has matured enough to not be lured into a corner brawl when he fought Bradley the second time.
In short he won't be lured to a FMJ clinch once he traps him in a corner.
He would throw a decoy punch, wait for Bradley to respond, step back and then counter all the while keeping Bradley in the corner.
As soon as that first counter from Pac connects, he would assault you with combos that will keep you guessing -- body, behind the guard, in the middle of the guard (purposely hitting the guard) and then splitting the guard (with that unique punch of his with the thumb on top, as if he gives his straight punch a bit of a spin to open the high guard) and then to the side of the body.

Pacquiao is head-hunting here, but you can see what I'm talking about:

    [yt]_seB2AA12f8[/yt]

And here on his famous 10-punch combo against Bradley, it's all in the works:
He would first throw a decoy punch to the guard to make Bradley think he is safe behind it.
Then throw one behind the guard.
Then throw another to split the guard (see the hand angle, it's vertical)
Then once Bradley becomes accustomed to it, he would throw right hooks too near the end of the combo to confuse Bradley further

    [yt]Fm6eMjjjaKs[/yt]

Pacquiao has very underrated dynamic punching ability with his combos.

    BONUS:
Look at how he was digging into Barrera's body at the beginning of this video too:

    Very good breakdown.

Only thing I don't like about it is focusing on Morales. He is a HoF boxer who was willing to brawl. Marquez is also a HoF boxer who was willing to brawl.

Mayweather is a HoF boxer, but missing the brawling part. This is why I am so interested in the style matchup because he will not brawl with Manny. I have no idea what will happen.

Glad Bogotazo came back to give his ****ysis. I thin Typhoon and abuffy took the critiques too personal and may be a bit young when it comes to boxing history. Pacquiao and Mayweather are both living Legends in the sport, but that does not make them infallible or free from technical critiques. I think both would have lost to various ATG's and beat many as well.

I'm not the oldest cat on the forum, but I've been watching boxing since the 80's and had a few amateur fights myself. If you don't recognize the decline of Morales at age 29 then you probably didn't watch him in his prime at 122 age 21 and his various battles. I can say I've watched Pacquaio since his HBO debut and gone back to watch his old fights. I've watched Mayweather since his pro debut, but mostly started followed him since his fight against Augustus. They are also both past prime and could easily fall into shot category upon the night of the fight. I highly doubt either fighter will have the physical capability or motivation to win another major fight after this.

Considering the body mass Mayweather is building for the fight and his willingness to engage south paws in the past I think Mayweather might be considering a Marquez/Morales approach to the fight. I also think he will be circling to his right and relying heavy on the jab. I'll come back with more insight later.

if you read my posts carefully, i never took anything personally; in fact, it was bogo who got sensitive the minute i didn't agree with his full ****ysis. His response was a bit defensive, discrediting me personally. What's funny is that i gave him credit for a great technical breakdown and admitted i agreed with several of his points; I only took issue with is how he made it look like lead foot positioning was the key to Morales' and JMM success. I argued it was more their willingness to stay in line of fire, trade punches and as some point out, 'brawl'. There were moments where lead foot positioning yielded positive results but i don't think this was the main reason for their successes.

as far as Morales, i just don't buy it that at 29 he suddenly aged and was past his prime. I'm sorry but that just doesn't make much sense. I know everyone is different and peak age varies by sport but in boxing, 29 is a peak age. You can find examples everywhere... Pacquiao was arguably at his peak in early 30s, same for floyd. Kltscko is arguably better at 39 than he was at 29! Hopkins peaked past 30 too... You can see that Khan is now peaking, and he's around 28..

In boxing, athletes only fight twice a year on average and training is measured and carefully planned out. At 29, a boxer is at his physical peak and has accumulated experience; boxing IQ is very important. The main reason people claim Morales was past his peak was because he started losing, but that's hardly a good reason by itself. Morales did beat them the first time around, but these fighters are great fighters who could've beaten morales at any age, even in early 20s. The notion that Morales in his peak was unbeatable, is questionable. He was never good enough to beat Barrera and Pacquiao consistently, never.

Some fighters burn out quicker than others. You may say you don't think Morales was suddenly aged, and I don't think anyone claimed that. His decline was steady over the course of many wars. He was the very definition of "battle-worn". Most people feel he was already past his best when he beat Pacquiao. The writing on the wall became apparent during the 3rd MAB fight, but it wasn't sudden.

The fact is going into the 3rd MAB fight, Morales had lost just once in 48 fights (also to MAB, in a fight El Terrible arguably won). But what happened was Morales last 5 of 6 fights before retiring, with the only win coming against a not-yet-fully-developed Pacquiao.

Do you really think Morales was at his best beating a green Pac, considering that was the ONLY fight he won in his last 6 entering retirement?

Floyd's NATURAL reaction is to go backwards nowadays IF his opponent likes to come forward. Manny comes forward faster than anyone Mayweather has ever faced. That's just a fact. Floyd isn't going to have an opportunity to really come forward and trying to counter Manny with one shot with his weight on his back foot and not having any momentum coming forward is not going to win him this fight. In a nutshell, Floyd is going to have to fight like he did @ 130 lbs. to win this fight OR, he's going to have to spend more time with his weight on his left side shooting left hooks to the body and counter left uppercuts when Manny is coming straight in with his straight punches. But, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks so I expect Mayweather to get pushed along the ropes for most of the fight and I expect that he thinks he'll win by countering Manny's offense off of the ropes but he will not.

Floyd needs to spend less time on his right side, period. This is the perfect fight for him to utilize lots of jabs, left hooks, and left uppercuts with momentum shifting to his left side. Pac likes to attack in a straight line and is best at it when he has a second to set himself and then he springs forward with a combination. He gets sloppy and off balance at times when he is forced to chase or deviate from this straight line of attacking. As an example, there were plenty of opportunities to counter him in the Algieri fight but Chris was too busy running and couldn't readjust himself to land shots when Manny was out of his comfort zone of striking in a straight line. Manny simply does not circle his opponents to the right side in any kind of traditional way, and Floyd should take advantage of that. For instance, Manny isn't going to attack Floyd in a half circle motion from the right side with any kind of attack for the most part. He likes that straight line drive where his opponent is right in front of him. Floyd likes to throw that lead right hand and let his momentum carry him to the right. This is a mistake--especially against a southpaw. If Floyd throws that shot, he needs to end up on his left side. Another thing, Manny isn't some kind of defensive juggernaut. When his opponent attacks him, they typically have success. Manny's defense largely consists of him putting his gloves up and waiting it out. He's not great at slipping punches or adjusting his body to avoid punches. A perfect opportunity for Floyd to be first and stagnate what Manny wants to do."

The onus is on Floyd in this fight. Manny is going to do what Manny does. It's all going to depend on how Floyd reacts to what Manny does. IMO, Floyd can't become stagnant on the ropes like he's had a habit of doing in recent years because Manny will just throw multiple combinations at him. Being stuck in the turtle shell all night long against the ropes is not a good look for Floyd in this fight. I believe he is going to have to shift his weight from his right foot onto his left foot should he get into this situation and throw more left hooks to the body and left uppercuts. Just throwing the occasional right cross counter off of the ropes is not going to win him rounds in this scenario. Even if Manny's combinations do not land when Floyd is on the ropes it won't matter because if Floyd isn't countering back, Manny will accumulate points and that alone will win him rounds.

How is Floyd going to react to someone throwing 4-5-6 punch combinations at him all night long? Manny likes to be first. That's what his whole game is predicated on. And Floyd's game is predicated on counter punching. I'm not sure that's the right game plan for Floyd. Is Floyd going to be willing to throw 'with' Manny? I'm not confident Floyd's pot shot lead right hands are going to do the trick in this fight in the center of the ring. Even if Floyd is able to time Manny when Manny likes to bounce up and down like he likes to do. Manny's speed has not diminished but Floyd's has. Even if Floyd does throw that right hand--and lands it--Manny will be right there to follow up with a counter and likely from an unorthodox angle.

Floyd is going to have to jab in this fight and move around and be first. Can he do that effectively for 12 rounds? I honestly don't think he can. And, something I've alluded to in the past--I think Floyd is to the point in his career where he has been overtraining. I think by the time fight night rolls around, he's running on fumes. I blame this on old methodology but if Floyd is willing to listen to Ariza, then who knows.

I see Floyd getting hit more than ever in this fight. I actually think he'll look overwhelmed at times. I used to not feel this way about this matchup, but, I think Floyd's skills have eroded more than Manny's has. If Canelo and Maidana can both earn MD losses, there's no doubt in my mind that Manny can get an MD win.

And if Manny does win, Floyd will look back at his career and he'll come to the realization that he should've fought Manny back in 2010 when he was a more effective fighter. Basically, he'll look back on this whole long drawn out charade as a mistake."
