Can anyone on here clearly and concisely explain why team Frampton turned down the £1.5m offer from Hearn to fight Quigg? At the lower weights that's HUGE money. Plus it's a fight Carl would be confident of winning, no? I find it very hard to see anything better than that offer becoming available to Carl.....:huh
yea its puzzling .... got the the irish news today... hearn said anyone who wants to fight 5 times to make 1.5 million instead of once is just stupid... hearn blamed barry for the impasse stating he couldnt even meet him face to face to discuss terms ...said he sent son jake along instead... basically blames mcguigan on being amateurs when it comes to discussing terms...:good
that fite is not happening now .... phil has a slightly [ only slightly mind] softer opponent in Yoann Portailler.... these are the sort of opponents he needs if he is going to headline meaningful shows in dublin to attract attention and support... i for 1 will be there... will u:good
The only "explanation" I hear is they didn't like the way Hearn broached the deal...via Twitter, via Sky etc....fair enough we'd all prefer people to speak to us face to face and all, nobody likes "megaphone diplomacy", but come on....its £1.5m!!! Personally I wouldn't care if the offer was made by carrier pigeon, or with a plane towing a banner flying past my house. For that kind of money I'd swallow any personal dislike of Hearn (or whatever else is The REAL reason they're holding back), and take the moolah. Let's say Carl was offered £1.5m to fight say, lsc or Rigo in say New York or Las Vegas. Would he take THAT offer? I'm guessing he would. Strange business.
I get the feeling Carl would be happy to s**** Quigg in Shaftesbury Square and this is more about McGuigan not being in control.
Hi lads, after about 4 years of quietly reading here and building up some knowledge of Irish boxing I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I think the reason they haven't accepted any of Eddie's offers is a mixture of big picture future planning and a smattering of ego. CWM Cylone Promotions (of which Frampton is a shareholder) are looking to grow and expand and become more profitable. They already have Frampton, McCullough, Cummings etc in Ulster and are now looking to expand into Scotland with Josh Taylor (2012 Olympian, 2014 Commonwealth Gold Medallist). Wouldn't surprise me either if they expand into the Republic in the near future. Cyclone don't want to cede too much control of what would be their biggest promotion ever. Plus they would lose a lot of face and mark themselves out as a small-time operator if they let Eddie come in and dictate all the terms of a fight in which they are the A-side. In an ideal world they want to be competing with Matchroom in the future - giving Eddie all the control for a fight in which Frampton is the bigger, better, more profitable and more popular fighter would (in their minds) be bad for business in the long term. Sure Frampton misses out on the £1.5million pay-day now but he's gambling on himself and Cyclone to continue to organically get bigger and bigger and reap the multi-million rewards if/when Cyclone become a major promoter on the British/European/World scene. Whether that happens or not I don't know, hope it does - would be great for Irish Boxing.
I didn't think Hogan did too bad. He was busy, never looked troubled and landed some good shots. He certainly didn't do as bad as those idiot commentators would suggest. Some very biased commentary there.
thats all very well but where does frampton go next... no matter what he hasnt a contract with ITV atm... with no big name opponent planned for the summer and no dates announced theres a fair chance he might not fite at all this summer... i just hope mcguigan has a plan b for carl because he needs 1 at this time:good:good
I was just about to say this. If my manager came to me and said he'd turned down an offer like that, against someone I was confident I could beat, my first comment would be " well you better come up with an another as good or better...Where is the alternative?.." As I said £1.5m is HUGE money at 122.
I really think they should of taken the offer as a once off fight on Sky and then worry about there CWM thing after 1.5 millionis stupid money for a super bantam, plus I hope they have someone big lined up now as if its not LSC, Rigo, Mares or Donaire it will be very underwhelming.
Yeah, like I said, I had it a draw so they were probably misrepresenting the situation in saying Hogan ought to have lost or that Brunson was badly screwed, but I do feel he was a bit lucky to escape with his zero and had the judges favored cleaner work a bit more they'd have been within their rights to rule against him. He was busy, yes, but he grew very untidy as it wore on and Brunson was able to make him look foolish at times. (although he never had Dennis too bothered with his own counter shots, as you said...funny since Brunson was supposed to be the "puncher"...)
