Its not that fast. I ran faster than that in the Army and I have asthma.

  5. Don't know anything about running... how long does it take a very in-shape citizen to run a mile?

That's just around 5minutes/km pace and it's not so fast. The thing that would make it impressive is if it involves hills.

5 mile 40 min is pretty slow for a world class athlete. That works out at 8 minute a mile. I use to aim for under 7 min a mile when I was boxing.

For an in-shape average person, anything 8-7minutes /per mile is the usual and they can sustain it for longer distances. For top elite runners, the benchmark is 4minutes or less. For reference, a mile is running a standard track oval 4 times.

4 min mile if we're talking about olympic level runners, and thats on a 1 or 2 miles. Over 5 miles the world record averages above 4 min per mile.

Bruce Lee use to say run 2 miles in 12 minutes to know you're fit for a fight.

Yes you're right. Less than 4minutes for a top elite runner is for amile or two only. For an average in-shape person, they can run a solitary mile in 6-7 minutes.

I think pac's team is doing this on purpose (slower pace) to avoid the recurring cramps problem. I remember that pac used to do roadworks faster than this pace when he is younger.

Still pretty good. 8 minutes a mile is good. He's in shape if he run 5 miles in 40 minutes
