As above, who would have won? Both fighters at their peak, and having a "good" night. In your opinions, what would have been the outcome of: 1 Larry Holmes vs Joe Bugner. 2 Ken Norton vs Ron Lyle. 3 George Foreman vs Joe Bugner. 4 George Foreman vs Jerry Quarry. 5 Jimmy Young vs Joe Bugner. 6 Joe Frazier vs Larry Holmes.
1. Larry Holmes is the aggressor and wins by decision. 2. Both good boxers but I feel Norton would outwork Lyle and confuse him with his unorthodox style. 3. Foreman would beat Bugner up and get a late stoppage. 4. Quarry although brave would take a bad beating and get stopped. 5. I feel Bugner would actually be the aggressor in this snooze fest and win a close decision. 6. Holmes as good as he was was no Ali and I feel a prime Frazier would be all over him and stop him late on, Holmes chin wasn't quite on par with Ali.
1 Larry Holmes vs Joe Bugner. Bugner would have came to survive, he wouldn't win but he would survive. 2 Ken Norton vs Ron Lyle. Lyle overrated as a puncher but I think he had enough power to back Kenny up and get the stop 3 George Foreman vs Joe Bugner. If Joe could survive the first 5 rounds, he may gain some confidence and realize that Foreman was weary, I just dont think he get past the first 5 rds. 4 George Foreman vs Jerry Quarry. This is a fight the Foreman people avoided and George had the style that Quarry excelled on. Jerry had decent defense and like to trade, JQ had an excellent chin and good power and his chin neutralized slow punchers. Foreman could take anyone out early but IMO Jerry gets to him before the 9th rd. 5 Jimmy Young vs Joe Bugner. Young wins in a boring battle. UD 6 Joe Frazier vs Larry Holmes. Holmes was good at avoiding the hook and Frazier did not have a KO right hand but I think the pace and pressure of Frazier leaves Holmes in a position along the ropes to get hit with the hook to the head and body and Joe would fire the right to set up the left....Frazier late stop
:good I have always thought this from when I was a nipper, but why had (and still does) George always stated he was glad he never faced JQ, like he was afraid of him?
George often says something weird nd controversial. I like Quarry and he had great resume, but he didn't have style and size to compete with Foreman
Holmes-UD Norton-SD Foreman-KO Foreman-KO Young-SD Frazier-Went back and forth on this as I'm a big fan of both fighters. I think Frazier is just a wreaking machine inside, and Holmes cant keep him off for the entire 15. Somewhere along the way, Holmes will stand his ground and start slugging with Frazier. A tired Holmes gets hammered with a left hook late in the fight.
Lyle was a huge right hand puncher and his hook was not bad either. Difference between guys like Foreman and Shavers vs Lyle is that Lyle fought as a boxer/puncher. Lyle was not going in there looking for one punch kos. He certainly had the power to do so. As a side note Lyle while in prison punched the concrete walls of his cell using towels as gloves. He would do this hours every day.
I think Holmes will better avoid the Frazier hook than Ali. He would keep stepping to his left as he did with ****ey. Frazier did not have a right that would trouble Larry. Thing is 15 rounds is a long time and I do think Joe will catch Holmes eventually. So I see Holmes well ahead tiring and being overwhelmed by the 13th round. Frazier TKO 13 over Holmes.
1. Holmes no question 2. If Lyle lets his hands go, he wins. If Lyle tries to box, Norton would outpoint him. 3. Foreman no question. 4. I think Quarry wins a few rounds but at some point, Foreman will catch him and force a stoppage. Would be a great fight. It just seems Quarry was prone to mistakes and the great ones always made him pay. 5. Bunger again? I don't think Bunger is that good, he even loses to Young. 6. Frazier can take him with both men at their absolute best. But Fraizer would get burned out and lose a 3 match series.
I agree Mongoose, at world level, he could look awful at the best of times, but I included him as he could be a bit of a spoiler at times, and could make good fighters look bad now and again, although he eventually lost against said fighters. I just don't think he had that killer instinct and will to win for most of his career. Having said all this, he could look good against a certain style of opponent. A couple to watch on youtube would be Bugner vs southpaw Richard Dunn, and his KO of Dino Dennis, which was probably the best straight right he ever threw at anyone. It levelled Dennis iirc.
