I think if it could happen in "real life time machine", it would be a 50-50 fight.

But on the pages on this forum, Chavez don't stand a chance.

ROBERTO DURAN by a knockout. Levels above Chavez. NOBODY trades with the lightweight Duran and survives.

This is a serious fight fan's dream match and is my favorite fantasy matchup ever. I believe this would have been a very close fight throughout with the momentum flowing back and forth. I don't see either getting knocked out, but due to fantastic body punching, each would be spent at the end. I believe Duran would have gotten a close decision- split perhaps- due to his edge in hand speed. I just feel he would have landed a wee bit more. Could you imagine the subtle head movement on each's part? Wow- an aggressive, technically sound brawl.

Are they fighting at welterweight? lightweight? In between? Which ever I'd take Duran by decision.

They are evenly matched, with Duran having an edge with pure boxing ability. I think Duran would have a decided strength avantage.

One of the greatest fantasy fights of all time.

Duran is faster, throws more, and had slightly better defense. I give Chavez the edge in Power and chin. In all the above the difference is razor thin for both fighters. This fight goes to the one that is the best prepared, and that will usually be Chavez.

Peak vs peak... Duran edges it..... Reality....unless Duran takes this fight with the utmost respect ,and trains religiously and with some fire.. Chavez will win.

Chavez did not blow up nor undertrain.... He was a machine.... Duran was a legend.... BUT...... he loses if not at 100%

It would be an amazing action/technical fight...At their best, I will always go with Duran by decision.

Duran by close decision for the reasons already mentioned.

Chavez was durable and was one of the best at cutting off the ring and fighting inside, This may not work for him vs Duran, who had good legs and inside and outside ability, Duran also had the better one punch power and could box. Chavez maintained better condition. Chavez had an iron chin

    Duran by decision

I doubt Duran would be hard to find in this fight, I just think he'd out gut him, which was pretty much what he did against Barkley. Duran was also a master at fighting inside and taking less punishment than he dished out.

Yes, but Morlocks is right. Duran was a force of nature who would have backed up Chavez and beaten him down I think. Duran was better in everyway. punching skill stamina strength speed etc

No way he "knocks out" Chavez...decisions him, maybe...and JCC WAS a machine...with an iron chin and an abnormally thick cranium..there's no way in hell Duran ko's Chavez.

This would be a classic at 135 lbs. Both guys had similar strengths. I don't think either guy would be able to run over the other, thus a tactical fight would unfold. I think Chavez would have to box and be forced to counter Duran, who would take the lead. This would be a very tight contest. Although Chavez never had to fight 15 rounds, all indications are that he had the stamina at 135 lbs. to do so without a problem. I think Duran's slightly better defense would help him eak out a close 15 rd. decision.

I agree. Duran slightly overrated on here, Chavez underrated. This is a great matchup.
