Well if it's this same argument playing out then I don't think either of you is owning the other. He's wrong if he's trying to say Dan and Gavin aren't easy mando defenses. But I think he's right when he says taking Gavin now is the best way to make 2 big fights instead of 1 later in the year.

Also what do you mean he won't be able to fight his mando in dec? You have to fight a mando every 9 months under IBF rules, and they fought in march, so he can set up a mando fight in dec.

 

He wasn't meant to be fighting at all on May 30th- he was only asked by Hearn because DeGale lost the purse bid, so he's fighting the top ranked challenger available by the IBF for another mandatory and to push the next scheduled challenger back until next year. So since you seem to have more between the ears than ellerbe and he avoids these questions, let me ask you what would be the more impressive year for Brook:

A) the current plan- beats Dan in March (mando), Gavin in May (mando), Rios in August (voluntary), Marquez/Khan or Maidana in November (voluntary)

B) what ellerbe is suggesting- beats Dan in March (mando), stops home playing with himself in May, beats Rios in August (voluntary), is forced to fight Gavin anyway by the end of the year (mando)

C) fights Dan in March (mando), fights Rios in August (voluntary) refuses to fight Gavin in November gets stripped of the title then Arum and Haymon see him as too big a risk, too little reward and Gavin is the best fighter he can get in the ring.

 

He couldn't fight Chavez, Ali and Rios because those guys would not fight on May 30th at 6 weeks notice and would be classed as voluntaries- not mandatories.

And are Chavez and Ali better wins in 2015 than Khan, Marquez or Maidana-no.

And get this through your pee brain whether he fights Gavin now or at the end of the year. HE WOULD HAVE TO FIGHT GAVIN ANYWAY OR LOSE HIS TITLE.

Yes, I understand that. I'm saying that if he were to take the mando in December then it would be tougher to make a Marquez/Maidana/Khan fight. Khan's next fight is essentially the start of June so he won't be available till presumably 5-6 months on. Neither Maidana or Marquez have had a peep about their next fights so hopefully with a little more time off they will be ready to come to the table. If Kell ties himself up later in the year with a mando it would seem to limit his options.

Instead of fighting a half decent guy in July, and waiting for the IBF to appoint a better mando that's available in Dec he took the Gavin fight right away.

Also are you saying he couldn't plan the fight earlier? And where are your sources that Chaves wouldnt take the fight? I'm certain Chaves would have definitely took the fight.

Correct. They tried to get Marquez/ Brook and Maidana for the Summer but Khan flat out ducked and Marquez and Maidana seem like they would be prepared to fight Brook but won't be ready by then, so the 4th choice is Rios, then by the end of the year he is looking at Marquez or Maidana.

Marquez is in his 40's, who the fk wants to see that fight? I'd rather see a Chaves/Brook fight anyday, Chaves was actually more competitive against Bradley than Marquez was. Now by fighting Gavin in May that gives him two voluntaries against two of Marquez/Rios/ Maidana /Khan before the year is out.

 

He's not getting the Khan fight, and Marquez is ancient, and has trouble against boxers. I rather see the Chaves fight. I also guarantee he won't be fighting Maidana in Dec. He'll most likely fight Gavin in July, then rios or chaves in Dec which is completely unacceptable. If he didn't accept the mando, the IBF would have appointed the highest ranked IBF guy available as a mando which is not Gavin.

 

I think this Super_Hans guy has laid it out pretty well by now so I don't have too much to add. Seems like you have some kind of vendetta against Kell. Even if you think Chavez is better than Marquez at this point (I don't) a Marquez fight would make much more sense for Kell at this point. JMM is one of the truly high profile WWs - even the casuals know him. Would make a lot of sense for Kell to get a scalp like that and raise his profile.
