Floyd's "adjustments" = running around and pot shot here and there.

Pac is actually is a right hand dominant but he's more comfortable in a southpaw stance. That is why his right hand is deceptive. I found it hard to believe as well but a few years ago, Pac himself said this in a video.

I agree. There is no automatic guarantee he'll make the adjustment. People are just accustomed to it happening, because Floyd has always made the adjustments necessary.

IMO, it takes him about 4 rounds to figure Pac out and time him regular. Just my opinion, and like I've said in other threads perhaps I'm eating serious crow pie Sunday. But as somebody who has watched boxing 30 years, I just don't see it. My father is a long time fan, good 45-50 years, and he doesn't see it either. (Manny beating Floyd - My father thinks it's going to be completely one sided, his viewpoint)

I've agreed with other posters who've picked Pacquiao (with good breakdowns of why) regarding Pac jumping on Floyd early. I feel the first 4 rounds are extremely critical for Manny. If he can't get in range to deliver punches "on a consistent basis" and Mayweather controls tempo and range, it's a wrap in my view.

You're one of the better posters here, so I know you know what I mean. If it falls into that tempo Mayweather likes, it's going to make Pac look average unfortunately. (Which he is not obviously)

The 1 punch feint and bait or an occasional flurry, isn't going to do it against Mayweather. I also think people are underestimating Floyd's ability to counter in the middle of a Pacquiao salvo. People have this impression he's just going to shell up and not catch and shoot.

In my view, it seems a lot of people really don't respect what Mayweather can do in the ring.

The Maidana fight I feel is not a good indicator and "fools gold" so to speak for people thinking: "If Marcos can do that, Manny can do better!"

Marcos has characteristics and abilities that Manny doesn't. Pacturds will take that as Maidana is "better," but it's just that he brings different things to the table.

    - Maidana had the size and strength to back Mayweather up, and pin him on the ropes.
    - Maidana has developed an effective jab with Garcia, that allowed him to make Floyd take those steps back to the ropes. Manny's jab won't have that ability. I'll take Floyd's left over Manny's right, just IMO. Manny is going to have lead hand problems Saturday, as I expect Floyd to dominate/dictate the lead hand action.
    - Maidana was able to use a cagey inside game to smother Mayweather and loop in shots around and over his guard. Manny Pacquiao does not have an inside fight game. At all.

Just my opinion like I said. This is just what I see. People looking at Maidana aren't considering the things I said. Pac won't have a 15 pound weight advantage and certainly won't be pushing Mayweather around in the clinch. I expect Floyd to bust out some dirty tactics Manny isn't going to like on the inside.

We'll see in a few days. Can't wait!!! :bbb

The fact of the matter is Floyd wants to fight at a much more conservative and moderate pace than what Manny has in mind for their May 2nd date.

Floyd will have his hands full simply because Manny is a stylistic nightmare for Floyd since PAC is a pressure fighter at his foundation.

Of course a pressure fighter alone is NOT capable of beating a defensive wizard and extraordinary counter puncher in Floyd.

Manny is of course extraordinary himself and is a very versatile boxer who fights out of a southpaw stance.

Manny has all the qualities and the style to beat Floyd. The awkward attack and unrelenting pace will be problematic for Floyd.

Not that Floyd won't have his moments and find his spots to have his success.......He will....but to win, he'll have to fight A LOT more than he's used to.

It won't be enough for Floyd to do the typical routine of using his superior speed and reflexes to stay on the outside, out of his opponents range and pot shot with the jab and straight right hand....clinch on the inside, rinse/repeat...

Floyd will have to utilize his entire ****nal of skills in a way we aren't used to seeing from Floyd unless it's against a vastly over matched opponent like Gatti.

Floyd could win by KO...but he'll have take chances to get those opportunities.......The big problem for Floyd is having to counter not the typical 1....2 punch combo...Floyd picks those off in his sleep.

Having to avoid and counter a 5, 6, 7 punch combo from a fast southpaw with very awkward angles is a whole new ball game.

For PAC.....Facing a laser sharp counter puncher and evasive boxer like Floyd is always a difficult challenge but I think the stylistic advantage goes with Manny.

Will it be enough.......I actually think Floyd pulls it off in a fight where he has the career defining fight his career has lacked.

YOU ARE MAKING 1 HUGE ASSUMPTION. THAT MAYWEATHER WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS VS PACQUIAO.

What makes you think so? cause he has made adjustments against past fighters? Manny Pacqioao is a completely different beast than any opponent Floyd Mayweather has faced. He has never, ever faced someone so hungry, with a cause, a southpaw who is awkward, fast, powerful and with supreme foot speed. He's also used to big stage and isn't inexperienced or intimidated by such a huge event.

    HUGE, HUGE ASSUMPTION.

It's always fun to read a well thought out post and there is validity in everything you said. You are right about using Maidana as a barometer. I was only using it to illustrate that Floyd is not a god who walks through everyone.
I think Floyd wins but I see Pac strong in the first 6 with Floyd finishing strong. I see rounds 6-8 as pivotal rounds. Whoever wins 2 of the 3 wins the fight. Could be wrong but I just think assuming a KO will happen does not make sense given both their histories. Would not shock me in the least if Pac took 7 rounds though.

I disagree that Pacquiao is a pressure fighter. I consider him an ambush fighter. Hangs around on the outside, moving, feinting... looking for that spot. Then as Lampley would say "BANG!" he's in, and he's out before the guy can respond. Either with a single hard shot, or a combination.

all valid points but we all have our biases..

let me just list a few things you aren't taking into consideration

    1. It's not just Maidana. Pacquiao is a different fighter than Maidana, we all know this but what i take from the Maidana fights is that Floyd has slowed down. This i certainly saw... A younger Floyd would've moved more, made Maidana look less effective and in the second fight not needed to hold 70 times..

    2. Floyd isn't as elusive as people think. Cotto landed shots, Mosely almost knocked him down; technically, Judah knocked him down; Corley hit him many times. Additionally, DLH gave him a tough fight and Castilo gave him hell. The point being that the notion that Floyd never gets hits is blown out of proportion. He's difficult to hit but fighters with speed have troubled him, at least momentarily. He was able to make adjustments but Manny, IMO, is more versatile than any of these fighters. It's also undeniable that Floyd makes more mistakes vs southpaws than against orthodox fighters. There are plenty of youtube videos showing those mistakes.

    3. Closing the distance is something people allude to a lot. What people are missing here is that closing distance is not only to do with range, foot speed is key. As Mosely put it, he was shocked at how a small guy like Pac was able to be ontop of him so fast, in a split second. He didn't think a guy so small could do that. DLH also has stated that foot speed may be what really gives Floyd trouble. If you look at Floyd vs canelo for instance, Floyd's foot speed was just superior to Canelo, it won't be vs Manny. He certainly has a reach advantage BUT Manny's first step and foot speed is remarkable and i certainly feel he will surprise floyd many times.

The foot speed issue is one that a lot of people don't get. Floyd reminds me a little of an old Ali. One fight he is up on the ropes and the next he gets a slow poddler and us able to dance like he used to. People get fooled into thinking that he still has the legs but sure enough next fight against a quicker opponent and it's back up against the ropes.

He's a pressure fighter......it's just an intelligent pressure that he applies that causes some to question the foundation of his style. He's punch output dictates the kind of style he has........It's not an unrelenting pressure....it's a consistent pressure that is delivered sporadically. So I do agree that he's an ambush type of fighter.....but the ambush come frequently in his fight.

    They're both old now.

Screw everybody involved for robbing us of a fight in 2009.

Sad to say, but this fight only tells like 10% of the story.

I think that honestly Floyd does not really need a lot of foot speed for Pac. I think that timing and slight movement will be the key. The best way to handle speed is with timing. I think if Floyd can touch Pac with the jab as he comes in it will be a long fight for Pac. If Floyd can't find him with the jab he is in trouble.

No the only reason you think Im agreeing with you because you don't understand the scope of the fight.

Maidana whole plans was to just outweigh floyd and push him around. When that didn't work he tried the same thing only a few pounds lighter.

Maidana and his camp knew that didn't have a chance skill wise so they tried what they could. Which was not much really.

Based on that which plan do you think PAc will employ ?

Will he try to outweigh floyd by 15 lb and out muscle him

or will he try and push floyd around with his Vasily superior strength!!

    I mean really ?

Did't hatton say the same thing when he beat Castillio ? Hatton was running around pounding his chest on how easily he beat Castillio, and how bad Floyd looked against Oscar. ANd how much faster he was then Oscar.?:patsch

Point being Pac is NOT a maul and Brawl fighter.. If he tries the same fight plan as Maidana he would get laid to rest..

SO pac fan should really stop looking at the Maidana fight as a way to beat Floyd or that its a sign of him slipping!
