Manny looked nervous at the weigh-in. Your thoughts?

They both look super nervous.

Its more of a cultural thing than straight up fear.

In many Asian cultures direct and sustained eye contact
is seen as inappropriate and a sign of disrespect.

Probably just the way Manny was brought up culturally and socially.

I have many Filipino friends as well and it's the same thing. You have friendly eye contact between friends and families.

However with strangers, higher ups at work they don't have prolong direct eye contact. Maybe just a brief glance or two while conversating with each other.

Lol I remember in school too, a Filipino guy had beef with some Jamaican dude. The Jamaican dude for almost a month spoke bad about the Filipino dude, gave him dirty looks and pretty much mocked him.

^ The Filipino dude ignored the Jamaican dude, avoided hostile eye contact with him and tried to laugh things off.

One day the Jamaican dude wanted to show off to his friends and went up to shove the Filipino dude during a game of ball. Filipino dude
in defense smacked the Jamaican dude hard in the face with the ball.

Jamaican dude was shocked! He tried to act hard in return but you can see the fear in his eyes. He kissed his teeth, yelled and pumped his chest a couple times before storming off the court.

Funny as hell because the Filipino guy was always humble, friendly and nice to people. But when push came to shove... well he turned to smack!!!

You can say the same thing about Manny Pacquiao. Many of his previous stare downs with opponents were similar. The opponent would look all hard and serious.. while Manny just smiled and avoided sustained direct eye contact.

Instead he let his fist do the talking later on in the ring.

I find that cool about Manny Pacquiao. Humble outside the ring.. but a warrior in the ring.

How can you really hate on a person like that??

 

For those of you who missed the other thread, Floyd also had two of his goons screaming obscenities at Manny so that might have something to do with why he was laughing and giggling.

 

Pac was laughing playfully and embracing the crowd.

I didn't detect nervousness.

 

Both these guys are veterans, but Floyd looked choked up, he could hardly speak. And to make things worse, in his backyard! Manny took over like it was his house. Floyd's confidence left him.

 

Manny thinks God is on his side. That blind faith is strong.

 

I think it's natural for any fighter to experience a bit of nervousness and fear before any fight..

However with Floyd I think it was more of his frustration and contempt towards the Love Manny got from the audience in Vegas (Floyd's own stomping grounds)

+ the fact that Manny did not falter but SMILED and waved in the face of the 2 TMT guys mocking him during the weigh in.

I think Floyd's ego was challenged that night......

 

Both guys are nervous. It's natural. lets hope we have a good fight and may the better man win. That's all I want. I don't want no controversy, I want the best guy to win.

 

Both fighters are nervous, this is the big fight, reputations on the line, whose numero uno etc.

Look at Cassisus Clay as he was, at the weigh in on the morning of his bout with Liston, ranting raving moving around like he was manic, his blood pressure elevated, he was tachycardic all signalling he was supposedly terrified, it certainly did not negatively impact on his performance in the ring.

There is nothing wrong in Mannys actions, no matter what arrogant pseudo confident posturing Mayweather might show, he is feeling nervous, pumped with adrenalin etc as that is natural.

Sometimes it is not good to try and keep nervous energy in, stay loose, let it out, the only folk you are getting to believe that you are not 'nervous,' are those observing who have never stepped into the squared circle for a important bout, or your adoring fans who will see only positives.

 

Anyone saying Manny looked nervous doesn't have a clue!

Floyd looked like somebody who has been thrown in at the deep end and can't swim!

 

Weigh in's and stare downs can give fighters an edge, but these guys have been around far to long and have been in so many big fights. This weigh in will have no impact on the fight.

 

Is it just me, or is Pacquiao terrible on the inside?

I'm currently watching his fight against Clottey, and I'm yelling at the screen for Pacquiao to throw an uppercut.
