Always thought IB was a short chicano. How wrong I was.

Nice breakdown, but can hardly hear you over the blasting music.

I agree with you on the body jab. BeRealTV thinks he won't throw it as much due to a counter right hook. I think the 7 inch reach, with such a straight punch, mitigates that, thoughts?

    True.

The right hand to the body is the more risky punch...but that should still get off.

You guys are old school enough that you probably just still associate me with the Barrera & Tapia post-fight bros pose avatar. :good

Do you understand the logic behind generally eschewing the jab versus southpaws? The point is that it won't reach a conventional southpaw. Pacquiao isn't a conventional southpaw. He isn't tall enough nor do his natural inclinations or style lend themselves well to boxing on the outside - where an orthodox boxer is going to have trouble reaching a southpaw given the extra gap created by their opposing stances.

Pacquiao is, with all due respect, a midget. He needs to be in close to get off his quick bursts, hence the perfection of the bunny-hop (which is something he technically does "wrong" in that no coach would ever instruct a beginner to do it, but he not only has gotten away with it but thrived with it because of his unique physical gifts). Plus, his entire manner of attack is to come straight at you in predictable beelines, in your face with a relentless assault.

In other words, for an orthodox boxer, he is the cure for all that ails them when it comes to jabbing at southpaws. If not reaching southpaws with the jab is something an orthodox boxer has nightmares about, Pacquiao is a wet dream.

Besides, you clearly didn't get my point in Floyd utilizing more of a jab. It wasn't to be a primary go-to point-scoring option. The goal is to vary his attack instead of just relying on lead rights, so that Pacquiao gets different looks and maybe throws a bit less in his wariness, thus lessening the ratio of activity in the judges' eyes and making them really pay attention to cleanliness, economy and sharpness of punches. (which, in turn, will also improve on Floyd's end if he is setting up openings for the lead right by mixing in a jab to confuse or slow Pacquiao)

Reminds me a bit of the first half of Golota-Byrd, where Andrew was having a fair share of success jabbing at Chris and creating openings.

Not that Byrd-Pacquiao is a perfect comparison, but I think it helps illustrate what you're referring to.

    Exactly. :thumbsup

    Pac is the anti-Byrd.

As southpaws they are about as different as Mayweather and Mayorga are as righties.

Yep, no more nuance in anything I said than "land punches". A wonder it took me fourteen minutes to spit that out! :!:

    That is Monk Foreman's gym.

Dude, that was so annoying. I showed up, did about eight or nine rounds on the bag and there was nobody around. (usually that is the busy time of day when lots of group classes are going on, but I lucked out - just me, and they didn't even have the music speakers turned on in that section of the gym)

Then about 5 minutes before I started recording the breakdown video (and I didn't have much of a choice; this was going to be my last chance before tonight's PPV to do so) they crank it to eleven. :wall

In the future, is there anyway you can either maybe ask them to keep the music down for a bit? I would say an external recorder and a lav mic, but the former will still probably pick up some background, and the latter may cramp your style from the physical illustrations.

I think you have the potential to take Teddy Atlas' pregame fight plan illustrations to a new level.
