Ended up with a 9-3 tab...Don't really think this would have been differnt 5 years ago.

 

Fight was thoroughly mediocre in the predictable way i was really hoping it would manage to avoid.Both these guys have seriously benefited from a weak era to still be at the very top this high in weight and so late in age.Neither are great fighters any more and haven't been for a good few years now.

If you want a good laugh watch this and something like McCallum vs Kalambay II back to back.There you'll see a fight between two mid-30s fighters putting out more effort and chops in 3-4 rounds than these two managed in 12.

 

2009 Manny and 2015 Manny are too different people entirely.

You act like a brutal counter right knock out loss had no effect on his mentality going into fight the best right hand counter puncher in the game.

Mentality he was nowhere near the same man he was in 2009. Not to mention everything else.
The speed at which he could change direction back then is long forgotten along with the unorthodox punching in rapid succession.

To say Floyd would have dealt with the 2009 version in the exact same manner is utterly ridiculous.

 

I thought Pac would edge it at this stage, I was wrong.

Pac gassed in the 4th after he hurt May. I knew it was over when he stopped in the middle of that flurry and reset with over a minute left in the round or so. May was able to cruise those rounds though with his foot work and reach, an inactive Pac has no chance.

 

Can't argue with this.

I've had exactly the same view of the fight for the last couple of years, since it lost its previous significance.
I became dumb and uninformed at the last moment when someone invited me round to watch the fight.
Thing is, of the ten people I watched the fight with, even casual fans, kind of knew this fight was 5 years too late and likely to be one-sided and boring.

It's like people aren't really even expecting something great, just buying into that nagging idea that "You can't miss it!" and "what if ..."

These things are massively marketed, very expertly packaged, and advertised.

The whole concept of the "Superfight" (nowadays MEGAfight) has changed massively in the last ten years or so.

 

Floyd is like Walcott and Wlad, his style ages well. Conservative counter punching and educated feet.

Pac depends on bouncy movement and high volume punching, overwhelming his opponents. He gassed out in just the 4th round.

 

That about sums it up.

 

Yeah, I can see that.

But if this is the trajectory the "evolution" of boxing is taking us on, we - the spectators - might as well switch off and watch snooker instead.

I agree, mate. Totally ****ed off with modern boxing and it's supposed wonders.

 

Khan is the only reasonable opponent, right?

I don't expect May to willingly sacrifice himself to GGG., who Cotto should be fighting if he gets past Geale.
