Look, I'm a Pacquiao fan, and who wouldn't be? Guys like Pac, Provodnikov, Rios etc. are ALWAYS fun to watch, and they provide great entertainment. But when you fight a guy who moves around the ring and BOXES, you find a way to deal with it, you change your game plan. Don't ***** after the fight that he didn't stand right in front of you and fight the way you wanted to, it's ridiculous. You lost to a better boxer, it doesn't take anything away from you, it doesn't make you less exciting, it means that you were out boxed. Jesus. Okay rant over
Haha i was thinking more of pacquiao/roach after the fight, they've wanted this guy for 5-6 years, did they really think he was gonna stand there and brawl? Idiotic
Nuff said, good post op. When Manny outboxed Rios and didn't engage it was acceptable, now because he got outboxed its not.
Tactics were awful, seemed to be no game plan whatsoever, maidana did much better. PAC should have gone for broke after round 7, let his fans down IMO.
Had pac gone reckless he would have landed something at least and mayweather wouldn't have had time to think, pac handed the fight to floyd basically.
People won't talk about it and pac fans will start to blame his "injury" but that Floyd right hand has underrated power. Yes the gameplan to beat Floyd seems to be to pressure and attack to the body, but he manages to keep guys off him with that right hand.
Obviously they didn't think he would just stand there and brawl. That's not what Floyd usually does. The plan was to use footwork and get Floyd to where he can't run and then land brutal combos that will swing rounds. We saw that strategy work during the first half of the fight. However it just wasn't often / sustained enough. Floyd instead decided to be more elusive than normal, clinched a few times, pushed Pac off a few times, and tried to make Pac miss and as the fight wore on managed to get out of those corners and got it to center ring, then set up jabs and straight rights. It's not that Pac's strategy didn't work or it wasn't smart. It was working and it was smart. It was a combination of Floyd adjusting and running more than usual and fatigue setting in. In addition, possibly a shoulder injury that we still haven't confirmed exactly how or when it happened. In this fight there are two questions here : 1) Why didn't Pac win? 2) Why wasn't the fight a classic? Pac didn't win because Floyd ran away and put all his effort into preventing Pac from landing those big punches that would give Pac momentum. The fight wasn't a classic, was a let down because Floyd did exactly that, and it became dull and boring with Floyd running and Manny chasing. The two questions are intertwined. Floyd made the fight boring and thus the fight wasn't exciting or a classic (like SRL vs Hearns I or something) and many people feel let down. Floyd could have been less negative and probably still won, but that was too risky for him. he wasn't willing to give the fans excitement, instead he chose to be negative and make the fight boring. That's what happened. Part of being an ATG is to have classic fights, and rivals, fights that fans remember. Win or lose if you show a fighting spirit, the fans will love you forever. Floyd doesn't have that fighting spirit, he was a running spirit which he plays 4 corners in situations where he knows he is threatened. It's smart and boring at the same time and it sucks the life out of the sport of boxing.
All good points, but if the gameplan is to try and trap him and not let him move around and outbox you, and your gameplan doesn't work, don't b itch about his movement and "running" after the fight, particularly when he outlanded you
Pac's gameplan was ****. Straight movement aggression to get to the ropes but every time check hook see ya later.
yup. should have told floyd to stop running from a midget. not one counter was thrown against the midget in the pocket. not one inside game. if you count holding and punching pac, then yes. didnt trade once. body shot? err... what happened to the bigger, stronger, faster guy that will ko pac? but i disagree after i read floyd;s statement. floyd "like i said before, absolutely not true. i also clinched":rofl floyd;s highlight of the fight was doing a clottey turtle shell impression.
This. If PAC knew he was going to 'run' and was aiming to try and stop him doing that, and then can't do it, who's fault is that other than pacs?
At least floyd had a highlight from this fight, Manny will be remembered for doing absolutely nothing in the biggest fight of career, his performance was shameful.
no by the majority people will remember mayweather for running and clinching public perception:hi::hi:
