is that why he got booed? is that why he lost more fans than he gained after this fight? Floyd will always be controversial because the of the way he wins. The running, pillow punching and defense will never get the respect that he thinks he deserves. People view him as a boring fighter and last night, he did little for the fans. Remember he said fight was going to be action packed? exciting? yet... he basically ran for 12 rounds. How many hard punches did he land? 2 or 3? To summarize the fight, the most exciting moment was when Pacquiuao landed the left and unleashed a flurry in 4th round, by far the best moment. The rest, was boring, why? cause floyd was in control.
He's the best of his generation, and he's left no doubt to that. You can make a very strong case for him as a guy that's ranked inside the top 20 of all time. The problem is, he campaigned in an era that didn't have the talent pool of say the 1930's to the 1980's. SO there weren't really that many great fighters for him to compete against. Since becoming a champion in 1998, there's been only around 4 true ATG fighters in JOnes Jr, Hopkins, FLoyd and Manny. He obviously could never compete with the much larger Jones or Hopkins, so he faced the only other ATG fighter that fought during this era. It's hard to have him ranked with the best of the best, guys who when you break down their resumes it looks like it's almost a fairy tale. How can anyone rank him over someone like Ray Robinson, Sam Langford, Henry Armstrong or the venerable Harry Greb?? And there's no shame for him not being at the very top of the mantle. It's going to be hard for any modern era fighter to come close to what those guys accomplished, it'll require 100 + wins against around 15+ HOF'ers. Boxing is the only sport where the cards are stacked against the modern day athlete to come close to emulating the level of success of the previous generation of athletes, especially those guys from the 1920's to the 1960's.
Pac lost more fans after that despicable post-fight interview. That has to be the most one sided #1 v #2 P4P match ever.
he was a sore loser, both lost fans. it was one sided in scorecards but did Floyd did much? what he did do?
NCX is rather similar to MVC.. And you both use an exclamation mark at the end of your username..... :think I do hope that we are not once again devolving into "Use alt to back up my claim" territory. Seriously, Floyd was superb last night and he is undoubtedly one of the finest defensive boxers I have seen. He neutralised Manny like few (including myself ) seriously imagined he would. There is a knock on Floyd, that he has not beat a prime ATG.. But not many ATGs have done so over the past fifty years. With the current fragmented nature of weight divisions and alphabet orgs, where you can have the quite frankly ludicrous situation of four boxers (who fight at the same weight) proudly proclaiming themselves to be world champion at the same time (I do long for the "One champion per division" of yesteryear) and the additional weight classes, it is highly likely that many future prime ATGs will be like ships that pass in the night. And it isn't Mayweather's fault that the last time the WW division had genuine H. O. F fighters in their prime (Oscar, Tito and Shane) Floyd was a couple of years from prime.... and fighting at two-three (130/135) weight divisons below WW. Now, based on what we know, had Floyd fought in that superb WW era (1998-2002) he would probably not be 48-0!! But it does seem rather unfair to hold it against him when he was a SFW/LW at that time. The fact is, Floyd is almost 40. And in a good WW division, the fact that he is still clearly the best boxer at that weight should not be ignored.
Controlled distance, dictated the pace of the fight, nullified Pacquiao's ****nal, made him wary of throwing, and won with ease. Basically made Manny look like a Golden Gloves level fighter.
If he fights GGG at 154 and then comes out of a mini retirement and beats Cotto at 160 for 50-0 lineal middleweight champion it would put him higher in people's lists
I appreciate it! I read your post also, it looks like we agree on pretty much all the major points. I do believe people will appreciate him a lot more down the road after he's been retired for some time.
That said, Manny was a train wreck. Idiotic performance. He didn't even thank god at the end. Hope he is a better politician.

He is shoulder to shoulder with the best that ever lived. Not ahead nor behind but you can't talk about the greatest without mentioning him with the top three.
