While there were struggles with Maidana and Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah is the last time I remember someone cleanly landing a multitude of shots to the head of Floyd, then being able to come downstairs and land shots to the body. For the first four to six rounds, Judah was looking like the much better fighter, until Floyd adjusted, stopped using the shoulder roll and started boxing in a much more conventional stance, firing straight right hands down the pipe, then moving to his right, following with the left hook and then moving to his right and back to reset. Post that fight, Mayweather has never had issues with southpaw since. Judah did a hell of a lot of good in that fight early, and I always wonder what Judah could've been if he wasn't such a ****ing nutjob. Judah had success where people felt Pacquaio would be successful, and it just wasn't there anymore for the left handers. I almost feel the "best" we saw Floyd Mayweather was in that period, fighting the Gatti and Judah style fighters.
Mayweather was pretty successful against southpaws both before and after he fought Judah. Someone tell me a round after round 4 in which Judah performed well in that fight.
You're echoing our sentiment. It was Pac fans who said ad nauseum that Floyd has problems with southpaws.
It was actually some garbage that Arum started. Pac fans/Mayweather critics just ran with it. Mayweather's style, amateur background, and intellect make him well suited as an orthodox fighter to overcome the southpaw stance.
