So I'd like to show my appreciation for Mayweather. He put on a master class performance last night. His use of foot work, movement, the jab, counter punches, were all on point. Mayweather and Pacquiao will both go down as greats even before the fight was made, so this fight was really just to settle how great they were and who is the best.

Mayweather ultimately proved he is the better fighter between the two. Obviously styles make fights and Mayweather was more bothered by lesser fighters in Cotto, Castillo, and Maidana. This victory is really not a knock on Pacquiao's legacy and just a bump up in Mayweather's status.

I think Mayweather's skill and consistency through 19 years of boxing his record of 25-0 (10 KOs) in world title fights makes him one of the best to ever do it. I think his status can go no higher than a top 10 ATG, mainly because of the names not on his list: Casamayor, Freitas, Spadafora, Tsyzu, Margarito, Williams. I also think his prime wasn't as great as other ATG's who were better prime for prime, Mayweather's consistency still reigns supreme. Despite my criticisms, he took on 25 world class opponents: Pacquiao, Cotto, DelaHoya, Maidana, Judah, Hatton..... and remained undefeated. So I gotta give credit where credit is due.

Mayweather will always be a controversial figure, but he's one of the best to ever lace up the gloves and I hope he sails into the sunset 50-0.

I love manny he's dynamic, explosive and gritty as any fighter to grace the squared circle, that said Floyd is clearly a class above and when I hear folks using the excuse that he ran all night it makes me cringe because even if you truly feel Floyd didn't engage enough the numbers tell you he threw more and landed significantly more while simultaneously making manny miss at a higher percentage than Floyd's average opponent. Mannys failure to understand the art of cutting off the ring was in full blast last night. Is manny still a legend hell yes just a notch below Floyd.

Lol, is it really that hard for people on the forum to just congratulate the man. I honestly don't like defensive fighters, but Mayweather did a great job in there last night. So far Mayweather has defeated every threat he has stepped in the ring with.

Exactly. I prefer Manny as a fighter and his tear through 8 weight classes will probably not be accomplished again for many years, and maybe decades to come. He's just not as good as Mayweather, no big deal. Still better than everyone else.

I don't know. He proved he can land a few more jabs and/or grazing right hands over the course of a few more rounds.

I think the best way to assess their greatness is to look at their relative performances against common opponents. And doing that I think you'll find Manny's resume superior. It's one thing to win a decision consistently (I touched you more than you touched me) aka Floyd, but it's quite another to beat a man into submission consistently (where he goes into survival mode or he's rendered unconscious) aka Manny. The latter, to my mind, is far more impressive.

It takes brains to stop a man. You might have to take one to give one, sure, but it's repeatedly putting yourself in a position to give better ones than you're getting. Floyd never demonstrated the ability to do this, at least not consistently. Great defensive fighter, yes, but far too cautious (whether incapable of more effective aggression or just too afraid to try, I don't know) to be among the elite all time.

I think Pacquiao and Mayweather will always be difficult to compare. Pacquiao consistently took on challenge after challenge and many times was the underdog. He also came from nothing and didn't have the advantage of a great training and nutrition when he was younger, and he definitely didn't have any sponsors or help. So I see that as a totally different challenge much higher mountain to climb than what Mayweather had to face. It's like climbing Mt. Everest with just a windbreaker and along the way people starting giving Manny a handup here and there along the way and almost makes it to the top.

On the other side Mayweather knew exactly what he had to do since young and was supported all along the way. His dad trained him since young and once he got to the Olympics he had some serious money and elite equipment coming his way. He still had his challenges, with a drugs and violence and broken home surrounding him. However it's like he started climbing Mt. Everest with the right gear and made it to the top.

People really only care if you make it to the top. Not how close you got.

That said. I like Pacquiao's style better, and his story is more compelling. However he got to the last ridge (Mayweather) and didn't quite make it. Still impressive an feat though. Also styles make fight and I think as two ATG's they would have probably would be competitve against any other opponent in history.

id put him in the top 10 had he beat pac with vada.

id put him better than ali had he beat a prime pac with no blood draining bull****.

id put him closer to pac, though pac is still above, had he showed usada testing him.

floyd actuall regressed in my book after a tainted victory.

a drained of blood pac vs. a juiced bigger stronger faster guy, pac 8-4ed him and made floyd ran like a *****.

floyd to me is prolly borderline outside of atg list now.

pac is now cracking top 10, maybe top 5, after all the odds against him.

pac fought 1, 2 weightclasses out of his normal weight and still won and made floyd ran like a *****.

Hate him or love him..u gotta admitt that Folyd Mayweather has a style that few in the history of the game ever had..Now..u can hate that style due to your preference..perfectly OK to feel that way..some ATGs like Sweet Pea etc suffered the same because of their style of fighting..considered to be boring.

However..in real terms Mayweather is a pure boxer-counter puncher..his style has never been solved..as of yet..and for that we have to give him his due..he is an ATG for sure..IMHO probably Top 25-ish.If the P4P staus was based purely on boxing skills alone,he'd be Top 5 for sure IMHO..we may not like it..but he is that good.

Manny Pacquiao..the most exciting fighter of the last 15yrs if u ask me..was never the consumate boxer..but was a guy who combined raw punching power with speed..and a big set of *****..a southpaw to boot..tore through the divisions like wild fire..taking us on an incredible journey..the like of which we may never see again in this life time..a true blue physically gifted slugger.

Now..if the P4P was based purely on accomplishments..Manny would be two-tiers above Mayweather..most probably Top-15ish..He has simply accomplished more IMHO..Mayweather's undefeated record did not come with the same..or close resume that Manny put together in the last ten years.

But on skills alone..Mayweather cannot be disputed as a to tier ATG.

I hate the sucka..I was always a boxer-puncher type fan me..thelikes of SRR,SRL,Tommy Hearns etc..but I gotta Floyd Mayweather his due.
