Literally, not one card official. Not a ShoBox, nor any Saturday night championship boxing. Nothing. Their own website lists only "past fights", up through Mayweather vs. Pacquiao - zip on the horizon: http://www.sho.com/sho/sports/fights This is every licensed pro boxing card in the USA officially known as of now to BR, through October: http://boxrec.com/schedule.php?country=US&division=&title=&tv=&SUBMIT=Go&pageID=3 They list which television outlet is anticipated for any card applicable. (that is, expected to be televised, or with a broadcast deal already reached) None for Showtime. Not one. The only imaginable one that could land on Showtime in terms of important cards without a current TV deal worked out, is Cuellar vs. Darchinyan (seeing as Cuellar's last fight was on Showtime, and Darchinyan has fought on the network a bunch of times) but that's it. Not even rumblings of anything. :blood Are they just done, now? Other than Mayweather's September contract-meeter? Stepping aside for the major network of the parent company (that is, CBS itself) to gobble up all the big cards going forward as the spearhead of the many-channeled PBC juggernaut? :huh
Yeah, but as part of his alliance with CBS and CBS Sports Network, why cannibalize all the action from Showtime with its longtime build in fan base for boxing? :huh That just seems like the CBS people shooting themselves in the foot. Eliminating Showtime Boxing = own goal. Why not spread the love? Have the big events split between regular Showtime and CBS, and smaller Friday night shows between Sho Extreme and CBS SN, for instance?
Fat Dan has discussed this and asked Espinoza about why they don't have any fights lined up and even brought up Haymon and asked if he was worried about all the time buys and supposedly Espinoza said he wasn't. This is very odd though for sure......Seems to me like Haymon might have used Showtime to put on uncompetitive matches for a lot of money and is now putting on better fights on his PBC cards essentially he used Showtime who overpaid for ****py cards
Yeah but a huge chunk of those PBC cards are on CBS and CBS Sports Network, owned by the same exact parent company as Showtime. They are, nominally, all on the same team. :huh
Interesting - that's a couple of theories on the PBC thing now. Perhaps we'll only see fights on Showtime if they're PPV fights now? The smaller cards we were seeing before were all Golden Boy fights too - generally - perhaps the drifting of them towards HBO has an effect too?
Showtime has to pay license fees to carry fights, CBS gets paid by PBC to carry fights. I can see why the parent company would prefer the latter option.
True but he has time buys on NBC, ESPN, Spike TV, etc also. Haymon isn't loyal to Showtime/CBS. They can't be happy about him showcasing fights on NBC for sure.
Eh, there's always Ray Donovan. :!: (yeah, they don't have even close to enough quality original programming to warrant a subscription without a heavy boxing schedule, unlike HBO) I mean, what a scam that makes of ShoStreak. How are we supposed to his 50 events within a calendar year if they don't even have that many? atsch
Terry Donovan's fighter - Black Irish Daryl Donovan - has a long way to go before he proves himself, IMO.
...but they're still happy to roll out new PBC shows on two of their networks? I would think him freezing out Showtime would be seen as too openly aggressive or disrespectful a move for Les Moonves to not sever the business relationship.
