What are your thoughts? Was Roy Jones one of the most naturally talented fighters ever, or was he a steroids-taking hypejob who avoided his biggest challenges?
I don't take anybody seriously that says he was a hype job. He just wasn't. The proof is in the film, and in his resume. You don't school Toney and hopkins by being a hypejob. it doesn't work like that.
Hopkins was green as all hell, Roy ducked the rematch in the 2000s when Hopkins had found his true form and was one of the P4P operators in the sport. Hopkins will be remembered as the greater fighter for not only his resume, but longevity and the fact that he fought almost everyone in front of him.
Won't ever know he missed a lot of fights that were available to him that would have told us more. He seemed to be reluctant to make challenging fights and had a very weak Chin which may or may not have had to do with his opposition.
roy was a once in a lifetime fighter you will never see someone like him again in your lifetime. roy made all time great caliber fighters look like fighters at your local YMCA gym.
Those fights were in 1993 and 1994. What about the 10 years after that and he failed a steroid test it is a Fact.
Greatest athlete I have ever seen step into the boxing ring. The power, the speed, the reflexes. But a little too much of his game was predicated on that and it caught up to him.
That is great and all but he was never THE champion in any weight class he fought in. Beating John Ruiz doesn't mean anything when Lennox Lewis was THE champion.
Right. And in actuality Ruiz wasn't even a top 10 HW at the time. With corrupt judges, refs, and Don King he wasn't even top 20.
I don't see any way Roy could have beaten Lewis. The size, strength, and power difference would be too big.
